Lots of stuff in there.
Fender&EHX4everModeratorI’ve been begging for an EHX tube cassette tape delay for years now. It would be a great way to recycle and use all those old cassette tapes that no one knows what to do with. Hell, even a VHS version would be cool. LoFi would be fine, as long as it colors my tone in a unique way.
June 5, 2010 at 2:33 pm in reply to: Vintage Memory Man/Deluxe Electric Mistress Manuas &l Schematics? #104664Fender&EHX4everModeratorI think those were made circa 1979.
The Memory Man pictured there has the chorus, but not the stereo chorus. I think EHX started making the Stereo Memory Man around 1980-1981.
The Deluxe Electric Mistress pictured there is the same version I have (green paint), and it still uses the old Reticon BBD chips. I think that EHX started using the Panasonic chips around 1980.
Fender&EHX4everModeratorI’ve owned all of them except the Nano, and I agree there isn’t MUCH difference, though the older EH1048 versions seem slightly more mellow than the others.
My favorite is the version 3 with the LM13600AN and LM324N.
Fender&EHX4everModeratorBad Stone gut shot for your pleasure
Fender&EHX4everModeratorCool clips.
I love my old PolyPhase. It is a really unique pedal with phasing voices that I haven’t heard in any other phaser pedal. The envelope modulations are out of this world.
Fender&EHX4everModeratorCongrats!
I just picked up this one last week. As you said, it sounds amazing.
Fender&EHX4everModeratorI’ve been in a psychedelic mood lately:
Fender&EHX4everModeratorI”ve never understood the usefulness of a tap tempo or expression controlled trem.
But a trem whose rate is controlled via midi, clock out, or CV (IOW, a drum machine)? That makes sense to me. EHX, please do this ASAP!!!
Fender&EHX4everModeratorQuote:it’s very hard for me to choose, the Q-tron+ effects loops seems a very unique and useful feature, because I have several fx pedals. With the Enigma, could you make me an example in which I can remix the 2 signal later in he chain?Yes, let’s say that you want to run a delay pedal from the Dry Out of the Enigma. This way, the filtered signal will not be heard in the echo repeats, only the dry signal. So now you have 2 signals, one with a filter, and one with an unfiltered echo.
You could now:
1. Run each signal to different amps and have a stereo set-up
2. Run each signal into an amp that has 2 inputs, and mix them in the amp
3. Run each signal into a mixer, like a BOSS LS-2, or an EHX Mini Mixer
4. Run each signal into a pedal that has stereo inputs, like the EHX CathedralQuote:I feel the Q-tron+ a little bit more funky-ready,are you agree?
my need is a great funky machine, for every gig,I was thinking to the Bass MicroSynth too,but maybe they are’nt so similar. The Bass MicroSynth is an entirely different kind of filter from either the Qtron or the Enigma. You can definitely do some funky sounds with it, but the filters rise or fall in a linear direction, they don’t rise and fall in a curve. I tend to use the Bass Microsynth to get more Techno or Electronic bass sounds, like an old MOOG.
Between the Qtron+ and the Enigma, I think that both are equally excellent for Funk. I would consider:
1) do you want the effect loop built-in to the pedal?
2) or do you want distortion built-in to the pedal, and continuous adjustment over parameters like decay, attack, and the start and stop of the sweep?Fender&EHX4everModeratorThe Enigma is definitely more versatile – it has continuous adjustment knobs for parameters where the Q-tron+ only has a switch to choose between 2 presets.
Also, the Enigma has a built-in distortion, and the Q-tron+ does not.
One advantage that the Q-tron+ has is a built-in effects loop that allows you to add an effect in parallel that isn’t filtered, and then combine the 2 signals into a single output.
The Enigma, however, does have a dry out, so you could essentially accomplish the same thing if you can remix the 2 signals later in the chain.
IIRC, both units are designed by Mike Beigel, the same engineer who designed for Mu-Tron. Both are excellent env filters.
Fender&EHX4everModeratorThe tube reissue or the vintage original?
If it’s the tube reissue, seems like you could just unscrew the top chassis and resolder the component back to the wires.
Fender&EHX4everModeratorQuote:I have one as well, and I believe you are correct with the polarity. It’s actually a nice compressor; very Dyna Comp-ish. Any well seem to like the Dyna Comp, so what’s not to like about the Soul Preacher?Do you find that it sounds better with a battery than with a power supply? Not sure why mine does, but it seems very glitchy when I use a 9V 500mA adaptor. Sounds great with a battery.
Fender&EHX4everModeratorI would love to see EHX create more digital/analog hybrids like the Deluxe Memory Boy and the Holy Stain. Kudos on those!!!!
Specifically, I would like to see analog modulation effects where the oscillation rates could be synced to a looper, a clock, or drum machine (preferably an EHX drum machine). This could be done by midi, CV, or both.
I’ve said this before, but it would be super cool to see a cassette tape tube powered delay/flanger.
How’s that for wishful thinking?
