haha, i always think about buying a ipod nano but i know that a month later it will be old with a new model at the stores

I’m so glad I bought my nano when I did, since now they have widescreen hi-def and shoot video, neither of which are features I want in a music player.

Oh, and I’m totally buying a DMB. Tap-tempo, analog and affordable, I’m in.

i have just got the micro pog and was wondering are they any settings you could suggest please ?

    12 string guitar
    bass
    jack white sound

    etc

    thanks

Here’s how I use the micro-pog as a bass player (and it’s been a mainstay on my board since I got it 3 years ago or whatever):

    For a basic “thicken” sound, I max the dry, set -1 at 11 o’clock, and +1 at 9 o’clock.

For an “8-string” sound, I play through the neck pickup of my Ricky with dry at max, -1 at min, and +1 at about noon.

When I play guitar solos on my bass, I’ve got dry and -1 at min, +1 at max, into a metal muff with the top boost engaged and at noon.

For a 12-string sound, I’d max dry, -1 at min, +1 to taste (starting around noon, it’s going to depend how your amp is eq’d)

For Jack White, I dunno, I’d start with dry at min, -1 at 3 o’clock, and +1 at noon, into a big muff, into a vintage low-wattage tube amp. Replace big muff with metal muff and tube amp with sunn beta lead for a passable King Buzzo sound. Helps if your guitar is made of aluminum.

I tend to think of Jesus and Mary Chain as the originators of the genre, but maybe that’s because I’m old. They seemed to look at their feet a lot. I would think a big fuzz into trem into delay into an overdriven tube amp (JMC used orange iirc).

A well-deserved accolade, Bill. I know you put a lot of work into those, glad to see you get some recognition.

Tube Zipper (anyone tried this on bass?)

I don’t run the ‘bassiest’ setup so i can’t tell you if you lose alot of low-end, but i thought the zipper sounded great on bass. it’s like the q-tron’s monster cousin, although i found it to be a tad silly with the distortion turned up much. of course, that’s just my ears – it actually sounded like too many effects on the same instrument, even though it was just filter and distortion. tough to explain, but you may feel differently.

if you turn the resonance all the way up on a q-tron, the wah effect is about as pronounced as the tube zipper with the resonance at half (roughly speaking) so depending on how thick you like your filter, the zipper could be ideal for you. my one complaint is that the trill mode acted a little strange on bass… i’m not the greatest bassist and my dynamics are a little spotty, which probably had something to do with it.

Hey, thanks for the heads up! I do wish it had independent filter/distortion switches. That would make for a must-have!

For messing around at home on guitar, I’ve got the vox DA5, which is a really fun little practice amp with lotsa digital effects that actually sound pretty good.

For band practice I run my fretless bass into a Sunn Coliseum Lead (I just got the reverb and tremelo fixed and they sound killer) into a Hartke 1X15 and 2X10 bass cabs with aluminum cones. My drummer hits pretty hard, and I still haven’t had to take the thing over 2.

I should have quoted Electro-melx from the 1st page, but his idea about…

DELUXE STEREO PULSAR WITH TAP TEMPO!

Stereo ins and outs so I could pan between the 2 pickups on my Rick?! I’m excited about the dmb, but pulsar with tap-tempo? I’d be camping out in front of the music store for that. :rawk:

Tap-tempo analog delay? Is that possible, and if so, why aren’t there more of them?

it’s possible (as I explained above) the reason there aren’t more is probably because most manufacturers wouldn’t see the point, they’d just make it all digital…..and boutique makers usually only deal with analogue stuff, there has been stuff like this before though…and it’s usually expensive.

….the empress tremolo is an analogue tremolo that’s digitally controlled. (so you can have tap)
    http://www.empresseffects.com/?page=tremolo

Ah, interesting, thanks for that. So saying it is analogue means the signal path is all analogue, I assume, and then the digital bits just read the tempo from the tap switch and somehow communicate that to the analogue circuit board which controls the actual sound?

This announcement makes me think that ehx has been surreptitiously monitoring my non-ehx purchases and then coming out with a cheaper product 2 months later. I get the Devi Ever “Dark Boost” and they release the mole, then I finally get a (digital) delay with tap-tempo, and now this.

Anything else you guys want me to buy to spur ehx product development on? 🙄

    DO WANT!

Man, I’ve been looking for a reason not to buy this pedal, and my willpower is running out. Anyone ever run a bass thru it?

SupremePancake, can you say a little about the sound in the video? Is that thru an amp and camcorder mic or are you recording direct? I love the idea of demoing the pedal with a loop, so we can really understand the sweep of the controls, instead of just a few discrete settings.

    Well done, sir.

Count me in on the LPB-1 Love. When I bought my Sunn Studio Lead off Craigslist, the seller recommended using a boost to liven it up. I was trying out cabs to pair it with at a music store and tried the LPB and, WOW, the amp really came alive.

Later, when I brought it to practice, my guitarist was using a really boutique boost pedal and A/B-ed it with the LPB. THe next week he had sold his boost, and bought an LPB with the proceeds, and a new guitar…

Any chance of a Clone Theory Design? I can guarantee at least one purchase. My wife’s favorite bassist (besides me) is Peter Hook of Joy Division and New Order, so when she found out he used a clone theory, she actually pressured me to get one. I know! Anyway, I showed her the merch site and her 1st reaction was, predictably, “where’s the clone theory?” It’s a cool design, either the classic or the current…
