thanks for helping out scruffie … and welcome to the forum.
electro-melxModeratorQuote:thank you! one of my guitarist buddies told me he really notices the difference when he uses gold-tipped pedal couplers for his pedalboard. I have both and I don’t hear any difference in sound quality at all. Nothing’s quieter than the other or anything like that.well all I can say to that is… if people hear a difference fine, enjoy your gold tipped plugs, if you don’t (like me and you) then we can save a bit of money by not bothering.
the sockets they go into in the pedals aren’t gold plated … the socket in your guitar isn’t gold plated, the socket in the amp isn’t gold plated and your signal goes though all these places, so why not gold plate those too if it has such a dramatic effect?
electro-melxModeratorI don’t believe there is any difference at all…. the only claim you could make for gold plating is that gold doesn’t oxidise like other metals can…. other than that I can’t see any evidence for any ‘improvement’ in sound quality… and I can’t say I’ve ever experienced bad oxidisation on any jack plug either.
in a nutshell, it’s BS in my opinion.
electro-melxModeratorQuote:it was the cable afterall…thankshehe, glad we could help.
well done Cryabetes!! have a gold star…
electro-melxModeratoralso doing this ..
“i tried every adapter i could think of in every polarity and could never get it to make a sound”
…could well have damaged it too…
..it’s almost impossible to diagnose it on a forum, it really needs a tech to look at it, although some pictures may help.
electro-melxModeratorI’ll take a stab at some of this for you!!
the grounds on the jacks are made through the metal chassis of the pedal that’s why they don’t have ground wires attached.
some DEM’s have a build in power cord (with a internal transformer) others (like yours) have a 1/8″ mini jack PSU input. The PSU is a 24v model number US24DC-100 (USA) or UK24DC-100 (UK)
it might just be that it’s not getting enough power if you are using 18v… so try the correct 24v power supply before you mess around with anything else because it all sounds normal to me.
… the 18v model is the original (non deluxe) electric mistress.
electro-melxModeratorQuote:Quote:I think the biggest hurdle to that being made is the case ‘cut out’ for the LED display… all ehx fit to a pattern.. either 1 knob 1 switch, 2 knobs 1 switch etc. Making a tuner would require a machine set up just to do a different drilling for one pedal, which probably couldn’t be used for any other pedal.. thus would be expensive to make…. that’s basically the answer I got when I asked about a nano graphic eq, if it doesn’t use a standard layout of an already existing pedal, then don’t expect it too soon.It doesn’t need to look EXACTLY like that… it could just be a simple rectangle for the note name and a red to green LED (like the one in the electric mistress even).
I’m just trying to switch all of my gear over to EHX and use Nano when it works.
…. but even that ‘simple rectangle’ would still use totally different case machining from anything else.. I agree it would be cool… I’m just saying this is probably part of the reason why it hasn’t been made yet.

electro-melxModeratorQuote:The fuzz has that velcro ripping sound which can be had using the Germanium Big Muff with the voltage control set low. Thats the starved battery sound.totally, I was just about to say when I put a nearly dead battery in my fuzz face it sounds exactly like that!!
….I used to love that programme, the way it all wobbles is so cool.
electro-melxModeratorQuote::love:
nice… and it’s inspired me to go and put this on. (my favourite trees album)
electro-melxModeratorQuote:To give the user a good idea of what it does it should be called the ‘Ann Widdecombe’. Doesn’t get much saggier than that.😆
electro-melxModeratorQuote:so even if it isnt true bypass, it wont distort my sound when it’s not on?the only experience i have with a pedal was one of those big DigiTech floorboards. a piece of junk, but it would extremely weaken the sound coming through, even if it was not turned on. i just want to avoid that with anything else i buy.
no, is the short answer .. if that was the case nobody would use Boss pedals and clearly millions of people do (myself included) and none of their pedals are true bypass. Sometimes having a buffered bypass in your chain will actually improve your bypassed tone, especially if you run a lot of effects.
electro-melxModeratorQuote:if you’re paying 80 bucks for a pedal, would it most likely be true bypass?would electro-harmonix even make a pedal that wasn’t true bypass?
do you know how i could go about finding out?
Thanks, TGM.
it usually says so in the specs… EHX make both TB and Non-TB depending on the pedal.
… just because it isn’t doesn’t make it a bad bypass though. There’s lots of good reasons for pedals not to be true bypass, it’s not really something you should concern yourself with to be honest.
electro-melxModeratorI don’t think the point of the SMM/Hazarai is to sound ‘natural’ .. everything it does best is very unnatural, reverse delays, ping-pong multi-tap delays, looping, repeats that fade in, etc etc … if you are just after a natural sounding echo, then don’t buy the Hazarai, you’d be better off with a deluxe memory man or the memory boy or something else.
electro-melxModeratorHi mate, hope you stick around.
