Dr. MattModeratorQuote:I’ve see Russian Big Muffs in Russia.
that goes without saying, i’d imagine
I’ve seen quite a few pop up on ebay, but i can’t order off the net (i don’t know why, something to do with my bank account), so the only way i’m gonna find one is to see if one turns up in a music shop anywhere or anything like that.
Dr. MattModerator:doh: i knew there was something wrong with my post
Dr. MattModeratorjust to confirm:
was this meant to be a reply to this thread?? https://www.ehx.com/forums/viewthread/637/
March 8, 2009 at 9:34 am in reply to: I feel like a traitor and I’m not proud of the purchase I made recently. #94279Dr. MattModeratorI’ve always been a bit skeptical about the pedal bag too. I’m not really sure if it’s necessary for EHX to make a boss-style pedal board either, though, but it’s very difficult to explain my reasoning, other than that EHX make a vast array of pedals in different shapes and sizes which would make it difficult to market a board like that.
Dr. MattModeratorI’m pretty sure the micro POG should work fine with a power brick, except it may require a higher ampage than the power brick’s outputs provide – to me, that sounds like exactly what happened, but i don’t think it can cause damage to the pedal.
As for the mains converter, i’m not sure.
Have you tried running the pedal with a 9v Battery?
Dr. MattModeratorI think my favourite single coil pickups are the Rickenbacker “hi-gain” hot single coils and the DeArmond single coils commonly supplied with Gretsch guitars. Both of those guitar brands seem to automatically give access to that crisp, clear sound which is the guitar sound i live for.
As for Humbuckers, Filtertrons are a favourite, and Mini-Humbuckers like those you find on a Firebird.
I’m not much of a fan of Gibson style “standard size” humbuckers in general. I know the aftermarket selection is very diverse and there definitely are some that i like, but in general these pickups seem to lack the clarity and sparkle that i desire, and sound dead, to my ears. Although, i do love them for soulful bluesy lead work!
Mostly though i just keep the stock pickups in my guitars and try to do whatever i can to get the sound i want out of them before i seek out a replacement set. this method has only failed me once, and that was with my cheaptastic epiphone les paul junior (The plywood version) which i’ll be getting a HB sized P-90 for soon. (i REALLY want to love the sound of that guitar, because it really is a freakishly good guitar to play, despite being cheap. Mine is a one-off though, i think, as most of them are junk)
Dr. MattModeratorI too am browsing Ebay and other places trying to find myself a russian muff. Difficult to find, but worth it, so i’m told.
Dr. MattModeratorI see no reason why the LPB wouldn’t work for bass.
Where you position it in your signal chain depends on the effect you’re going for – generally, to simply boost the volume it would go after the muff, but there’s no harm in experimenting – putting it before the muff will result in less of a volume boost and more of a gain boost.
Dr. MattModeratorthis is a mixture of  and :thumb: now.
I took both the fuzz and the wah to the shop to see if they could find out what was wrong, but it was working fine!
anyway, when i got back, i discovered that a cable was dead, which may have been part of the problem. also, due to the fact there was lots of noise which stopped when i touched the strings on the guitar, i decided to check the earthing in the socket everything is plugged into.. and it was bad wiring done by whoever wired the house’s electrics (i’m told the last time the wiring was checked was in the ’70s!)
so i fixed the wiring in the socket, and now it works fine
Dr. MattModeratorI don’t have any videos.
The only band i’m in at the moment is one which the college i go to created at the start of the academic year which seems to have lived on. We have had a short set recorded, though, as well as being filmed playing 1 song the next day in a small theatre as part of the college “showcase” (as a result, theres more singers, and some extra people on percussion as well). But i don’t yet have copies of either.
I know there’s a video from the same theatre gig where basically we all switched over and performed with different people, lurking around on youtube, but it’s such a bad quality recording it’s not worth looking for. It’s a rendition of Mr Tambourine man with me on 12-string guitar/backing vocals..
Dr. MattModeratorThis is why i find gibson annoying – they make some amazing guitars, that can’t be denied, but they behave like a bunch of attention seeking children sometimes, when they really don’t need to because they are quite possibly the most well known guitar brand out there.
Dr. MattModeratorQuote:I like it with the black background….colours look really nice.yeah, it looks nicer than on sites like UG where people post in coloured fonts and it clashes against the light grey background. That hurts my eyes.
Maybe there could be some kind of colour scheme option, keep this as the default setting as it matches the rest of the website, but allow people to select an “inverted” version?
Dr. MattModeratorQuote:If its weird with the wah bypassed that sounds like the wah is buffered bypass to me.I have an EHX Doctor Q, Marshall ED-1 compressor and JH-1 overdrive, and a Boss DS-2, between the wah and the muff. I know that the DS-2 is buffered bypass too, but i get the problem whether there’s any pedals between them or not. I’m at a loss here as i’ve tried almost everything.
I would naturally diagnose the problem as the wah, but then, wouldn’t that mean that all the other true bypass pedals would be having similar problems?
I Honestly don’t know a lot about my wah pedal – It’s a mysterious old “mister crybaby super” made in italy by a company called JEN elettronica. There’s very little information about them on the net. In bypass mode, it’s a volume pedal, which is something i forgot to mention. so i’d imagine it is a buffered bypass since there’s no “inactive” setting. it’s either volume, or wah.
Dr. MattModeratorupdate: without the wah pedal it’s fine, it’s also fine while the wah is in use- just when the wah is bypassed it goes weird.
i’m gonna get the shop to have a look at it… i’m completely lost as to why it would suddenly not like the wah’s bypass, when i think the wah is true bypass, and it already has 2 marshall pedals, a boss, and a doctor Q between it, i know at least one of those is buffered…
further edit: well, i took it into the shop and it sounded better than ever, it cleaned up when i turned the volume down on the guitar (something it’s never done before!), just sounded better even though i was using a marshall MG15DFX in the shop… So they think it’s something to do with my wah, not the big muff.
Dr. MattModerator‘Good’ is subjective. Some prefer MXR, others prefer EHX. I personally prefer EHX, That’s why i’m here 😆
the only MXR pedals i’ve liked were the clean boosts, but i still felt that they were very overpriced.
