For this pedal, price is not in the question. I would happily pay $400 for one, if it was high quality.

Please tell me what you think. If enough people go on this tpoic, this dream may become a reality!

I would resign my position as admin if EHX released a $400 ‘gilmour’ Big Muff. It would be a sickening cash in.

Who said anything about a 400 muff….? You’d be an idiot to buy it when you can get a byoc and build it yourself for a quarter of the price. But…..how funny would it be “IF” EHX did release an exact copy of and old ramshead or triangle for about 100! Same looks and everything. I guarantee you the ones that have shelled out big bucks for the vintage muffs would bash it and say they sound like shit. That would be so funny and make me happy as hell!!!!

Maybe absurb wasn’t the right word, but I do think alot of the newer muffs are lacking something. They sound thin, flabby, and sometimes buzzy to me. I actually have a Byoc triangle and I do think it’s ridiculous to pay 400-500 for a vintage triangle but I’d still like to have one. Something like that’s almost like an investment really. End the end, I’d still like to see EHX release some clones of some of their older versions…they don’t have anything to lose.

I am glad someone agrees with me! The new Big Muffs just do not compete with the older ones!

    based on what? 😆

……..all this misty eyed nostalgia it all well and good, but lets face it the reason those old muff’s fetch what they do has nothing to do with how they sound. Do you really think EHX have forgotten how to make a big muff?

You think people pay big bucks for a ramshead because of the looks?? I’m sure it does have something to do with it which is why you don’t see the V3s, I think it is, go for as much. I think it’s pretty absurd to think the newer muff’s sound as good as the older ones though…except for the tone wicker which has a pretty good sound. Not that I’m bashing the newer muffs, they have their own sound and place but I think the use of cheaper components and such has had a pretty big impact on todays muffs.

On another note, for you rat fans I hear they’re making a faithful recreation of one of their older whiteface rats. Pretty excited about that one and wish more makers would do this.

I’d love to see EHX make a faithful recreation of some of the older muff’s. Baffles me why they don’t do it anyways….

It works if you have a pedaltrain or a similar size board so you know what will fit on your board. Right before this came out I was shopping for a pedaltrain but couldn’t figure out what size I needed. This would’ve come in handy at the time if EHX was on there.

Also, if you interested in a pedal and curious if it will fit on your board or not voila…go to this site. But I agree, there is definately a ‘fun’ factor to it.

Doesn’t the delay knob adjust the depth?

Isn’t it most likely the op-amp version because of the ac on the top?

I got my second MT a while ago, but almost the same thing. A bit more feedback, but no oscillation. Mod still terrible. I tried the boy also. No good. I am sorry to say this, because i really wanted to love these pedals, but I think the good folks at EHX jumped the gun on these ones. I didn’t expect this to be as great at a DMM, but these pedals are nothing compared. The DMM is an instrument, a “beast” you have to tame! A really inspiring pedal to play, and play around with. The MB & MT aint. Sorry. Utube videos reveal a very inconsistent quality on the feedback an d mod side on the new ones. Probably should have gone through a bit more rigorous testing..
If the good people of EHX care for a bit of feedback, you really should reverse the mod switch on the toy, so it’s not so easy to accidentally switch on the mod while engaging the pedal. Hell, remove the mod option all together. make the toy a basic analog delay. Increase the feedback possibilities so they can oscillate. Yes, it is juvenile fun, but an analog delay that can’t make crazy oscillations lacks something important.

    DMM is still nr 1!

Maybe this is the reason why they’re so affordable. I bought the MB when it first came out and returned a week later. Other than the horrible mod section it just seemed to lack something. It didn’t inspire me…which is what a pedal should do iMO! However, I do wish I’d kept it and maybe given it a second shot. I’ve actually considered getting another used one just to be sure but with the new Malekko 616, which sounds and appears to be much better, and the constant complaints on the MT and MB I’m reconsidering.

DMM is still the man though!

I have the exact same problem with my deluxe electric mistress. I seem to be the only person that has this problem, as bad atleast, whenever I ask on forums. My guess would have to be just inconsistent batches being made since they all don’t do it. It helps to try the pedal in different places in your chain though. Sometimes the pedals before or after make it worse.

Thanks alot EHX for chiming in. That should answere a good bit of questions for those of us whom are curious about the pots as well as sell a few pedals!

Diamond…white noise, or a slight staticy noise is normal for an analog delay. You said it had a whistling noise. Like flick said, it’s hard for anyone to know without hearing your pedal but I’d bet it’s fine.

Bummer about the ibanez dlm…they’re actually really good delays.

That sounds strange. Is this when you’re turning the knob or on the repeats? That being said, I wouldn’t go adjusting in trims until you find out what they are. Even then, I’d be careful.

Somewhat related…anyoneknowwhat chips were in the v3 MM?
    This one:
    mm3.jpg
What would stop decay/feedback, turning it into a single echo slapback? Fixable?
Is this MN3005 or SAD1024? Would the delay chip be the problem, or something else?

Just open it up and see. I’m not sure how many are in there but it/they’ll be easily recognized.
