Don’t put it in the loop…it should go inline in front of the preamp otherwise it’s going to sound awful. Loop is for things like chorus and delay, not dirt. And muffs are kinda inherently noisy pedals…

The pot cleaner may or may not work. Try it. You can also open up the pot and carefully clean the strip with cleaner or isopropanol, then put it back together again. Or just put in a new pot.

    Nice! I take it you’re excited? I bet it’s heavy as a mofo…beautiful. Congratulations.

    v5 op-amp muff w/ tone bypass.
What’s the number on the flip side of the board EHxxxxx
Hard to see much else from the tiny pic though.
EH1322 maybe — I used to have a bunch of those and Kit Rae really likes em.
The v4 non-tone bypass I had was a 3003B board. The other two were v5 TB EH1322 & EH3003. Both of those latter boards wer ealso dropped into little big muff cases in the 70s with a resistor across the pot pads for tone and sustain, leaving only one pot for volume.

The EH3003 and EH1322 op-amp muffs (usually?) had the green mask on the board though. Yours looks brown.

    Post bigger/better pics?

Why am I the only dude here that uses the handy poll system?! Ha, nobody prefers digital because it is a tone killer!

Digital isn’t a tone killer. Crappy A/D converters are tone killers, and that’s the problem. That and everything was digital in the 80s, so it automatically gets associated with mullets and sports jackets with the sleeves rolled up halfway…
Digital gear can (and does) sound good, just not cheap crappy digital gear is all.
Although I mostly prefer a big old chunk of germanium with wires sticking out of it and some tubes for music.

The Hoof is a Germanium (well, half anyway) muff. I don’t think just using Ge trannies is going to magically make a muff circuit somehow sound like a FF.

Does anybody know where I can find some D-Shaft or Flattened-Shaft potentiometers? Specifically a 100K audio potentiometer with the D-Shaft.

I needed some to repair a Big Muff. Snagged some regular round shaft pots and dremelled one down to a D-shaft. It was a PitA, so I just used a round hole Davies knob on the other one.

Looking forward to a torrent of usefulness..

Get a real Q-Tron — the big one. More versatile. I don’t think the Dr. Q sounds that great. Haven;t tried the nano qtron, but I have two of the big box ones and they’re great.

Did you buy it new? If so, take it back. If not, don’t worry about it, just replace the screws.

The vocal mod helped a lot in mine as did the whipple inductor, although you might have good luck with a RI Fasel. I really like the whipple though…got close-ish to the sound of my ’69 Clyde McCoy.
If you want to go all out, have a look at this: http://www003.upp.so-net.ne.jp/kazuhee/ewahmod1R.htm
I was always going to try modding it more, but got tired of it.
The FoxRox buffer is good too if you use fuzz.

Great clean tone? I turn off my pedals :D
Actually, I love my Echoplex for what it does to the clean tone.
