If I wasn’t a fanatical big muff collector I would never pay over $300 for a 90’s sovtek muff, another $100 or so can get you a v2/v3 ramshead muff!

Wow, I had a green Sovtek years ago, didn’t like it–it ws overpowering–and sold it for $50. Although I did just get a v3 3003 for $150! (to go with my v2, which cost double that). The 3034 I’ve always thought of as just a piece of 80s junk, which is why it’s sitting awaiting a repair…I need to start paying more attention. So far the v2 3003 is the nicest one I’ve heard.

I was thinking, maybe it would be possible for EHX to make a “mini” Tape Echo of sorts. I don’t know how small these can be made, but that could help cut costs. There should be some competition in the whole TTE segment, Fulltone is the only current manufacturer I am aware of. A cheap reverse delay would be cool though (is it even possible for an analog delay to be reversed?)

HiWatt does one of these. It’s still pretty expensive, and I still prefer my ancient Echoplex.

One option is the EP-pre (http://www.clinchfx.com/ep-pre) into a DL-4 tape echo setting to get the EP preamp, which is part of what makes the echoplex sound so good anyway, and the wobbly delay. Or just stick with a DMM, it’s a lot less hassle than a tape echo.

I got it for $140 on eBay BIN price.

Thanks – so are these considered vintage now? I better get soldering.
(I still kick myself periodically for throwing away a “crappy old” triangle big muff in the 80s…doh!)

Just scored another big muff on eBay, its a 80’s 3034 transistor version with tone bypass. Now that I’ve spent all the money in my big muff fund I wont be buying anymore for quite some time. I’ve bought 3 in 2 days so that aught to cure teh Big Muff GAS for a while.LOL

Can I ask how much that cost? I have one of those in a drawer with the switch hanging off that I haven’t gotten around to fixing yet…maybe I should dig it out. Use a Lamb’s/Ram’s Head v2 3003 (FS36999) mostly, but also a v3 3003 w/ BC239C.
