    I have a number of ’70s and ’80s EHX pedals. Is there a sequence to the 137… pot code which makes it possible to date the pedals?

    Thanks

    137YYww
    137 = CTS
    YY = year
    ww = week

    So, 1377805 = CTS pot: 1978: 5th week (end Jan/beginning feb)

    EDIT: Just noticed Ned Flanders already gave you this info.

    nope didn’t get it. SO MAD!!! it was sold to someone else. dammit.

    Not surprised at that price. I have one of the IC versions and it’s great. It is a full size BMP board with the tone fixed — there’s a resistor soldered across the tone pot pads. Mine’s the 1322 board.
    Discofreq, if you want pics of mine I’ll get em to you.

    Just replace the electrolytic. If that doesn’t help, replace the IC.

    What’s a good choice op-amp? The one that’s in there looks like MC1458, but the schem I found has 4558, like a tubescreamer.
    (How about OPA2134 or TLO72? Totally unsuitable?)

    IIRC, there’s a screw in the middle btwn the tubes that just needs to be tightened…let me see if I can find the discussion. In fact, I think I read something about loosening all the screws and re-tightening, but the one that comes to mind is the chassis screw between the tubes.

    EDIT: OK, here’s the thread with the guy who designed it chipping in with a solution:

    see that chassis-screw under the grille right in the middle between the tubes?
    give it an itsy bitsy tiny twist with a screwdriver…

    Electrolytic caps would be next. Is that unit transistor or IC?

    It’s a 1977 IC model.
    There’s one polarised electrolytic underneath the board, along with one of those little green chicklet caps and a big orange one, then there’s the ones you can see on top. Replace all the caps or just that polarised electrolytic? Those orange ones are ceramic?

    Thanks — any idea what would cause large amounts of white noise in that circuit? I cleaned the switch and the pot, but it’s really noisy.
    Capacitors next?

    is there an difference with the old and ox memory man at all?

    no, they are the same…..apart from the obvious differences

    Isn’t the XO all SMC (and a bitch to repair/mod)? They’re using NOS Japanese Panasonic MN3005 chips though right? ‘Same circuit’ sure, but not the same components…

    Please tell me which would you rather own and why. Which one is better?

    DMM all the way for me…and the supply of those BBD chips isn’t going to last forever either. Grab one while you can.
    Although, “better” is subjective and depends what you’re doing with it. The Hazarai does a lot more, but I like the sound of the old DMM as a straight delay. But if you want loops and reverse delay and tap tempo then digital is the way to go.

    Dont use the wicker, just use it as a NYC.

    It’d be cool with a gate in it, like the old Jen Jumbo.

    Mines noisy with the wicker on but only when your not playing so it doesnt bother me, with it off its just normal.

    That limits what you can play though. No space, no gaps. Unless you’re going full on all the time, it’s too noisy. Play something, let a note tail off and BUZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZWOOOOOOOSHBUZZZZZZZZZZ kinda kills it.
    Think I’ll ditch mine…Shame, it does sound pretty good otherwise.

    Mine’s kinda noisy with the wicker on or off and tone bypass on or off.
