Do they work OK if you just run regular patch cables between the pedals instead of the loop thing?

Name and shame!
OP, did you pay with paypal?
I’d file a dispute: “item not as described” — that thing has been harvested for more than pots. Return it and get your $$ back. (even better if you used a cc on paypal, do a chargeback and let paypal go after the seller).July 25, 2009 at 5:12 pm in reply to: I have a 4 knob DMM thats needs some serious help.. It’s going to cost you at least E80 just for those chips though…
There was another guy a while back asking $80 a piece.*No affiliation / not mine / don’t know seller just trying to help
I’ll lay you odds the guy who sold you that pedal ripped it apart to sell the components on ebay then sold you the junk left over.
I hate that.devnulljpParticipantMy money’s on a bad switch (or if you’re lucky a loose wire on the switch, but most likely the switch). You should be able to get a new one for $10.

devnulljpParticipantQuote:It’s easy to use emotive language like ‘Chinese sweatshops’ and ‘Unethical business practices’ ‘crappy QC’ but is this fact? I’ve seen no evidence that any of the large musical or electronics companies operate in this way.I’ll say no more on the subject but it seems a bit of a cheap shot to me.
“funnel cash into countries known for human rights abuses”
This is the latest UN Human Rights Council’s report on America’s human rights record….it isn’t so rosey.
If you want to say no more, that’s fine by me but if you want we can get into this.
QC is an easy one that’s pretty clear of the emotional aspect. Take a Danelectro TO and a Timmy (Danelectro ripped off Paul Cochrane’s circuit, oops unethical business practices?) or a Danelectro fuzz and a Frantone peach fuzz (oops, same deal as before) and compare the quality. Same? Also sounds like you’re making an assumption I’m American and/or that I’m saying America is somehow above and beyond reproach — neither is true.
devnulljpParticipantQuote:I’m also somewhat prejudice towards boutique pedals. I really don’t like to buy them. Why on earth would you be prejudiced against something made by real people who love what they do instead of built by machines, or worse, stuff made in Chinese sweatshops?
So you get crappy QC, support unethical business practices, and funnel cash into countries known for human rights abuses, but hey you get something that kinda sounds like what you want and it only costs you $50 right?
Weird.devnulljpParticipantQuote:Just got a 1972 Muff-Fuzz the real small one with no switch other than the toggle off-boost switch.
Anyone help with adding a true by-pass switch or a tone bypass switch?Sounds like you might really want a Little Muff Pi — that’s a Muff Fuzz in a stomp box enclosure.
devnulljpParticipantQuote:Quote:Just snagged a Ram’s Head era Frequency Analyzer for $78…That’s an awesome deal. I paid almost twice that for mine
But it’s worth it. It has a really awesome tone, despite the volume drop. I use an old LPB-1 plug to fix the volume issue, and it works perfectly. It’s tempting to just work the LPB-1 into the box with the Freq An, but I don’t want to devalue either unit, and space is not an issue with me.If it makes you feel any better, mine has got such a volume drop (~80%) when engaged it’s completely unusable.
And I just saw one listed on a Japanese site for Y73,500 ~= USD$750 !devnulljpParticipantMost compressors are noisy to some extent by virtue of what they do, but some are noisier than others. Nothing beats an old Dynacomp if you ask me. (Not the M102, an old one from the 70s. Scripts are best, but expensive. I found a transition block logo with script guts and it sounds great). Haven’t they just reissued those as custom shop hand wired versions? I saw a Phase 90 and it looked pretty good..
July 16, 2009 at 9:54 am in reply to: Can I send my vintage EH gear back to factory for repair and modification? #99509devnulljpParticipantQuote:No thank you. So I can’t send it back to factory? That is a bummer. I could take it to my guy in town but I would rather send it in to the factory.I’d rather send vintage EHX gear to Ron for repairs/mods.
devnulljpParticipantEverything before everything else.
Filters (wah and dynacomp) before dirt
Compressor after filters and before dirt (unless you want white noise).
Delay and modulation at the end or in FX loop if you have one.
I usually go low gain -> high gain with dirt, but regular (not muff) fuzz before dirt.
The boost? Depends what you want to use it for. Boost->OD will give you more gain (not necessarily volume); OD->boost will give you more volume (not necessarily gain). So, FWIW: Wah->Qtron->comp->TS9->BMP->delay with boost depending on use
But I also agree with justubert: dump (or mod) the crybaby and the Boss compressor.
devnulljpParticipantYes, looks a bit like an XB-something — like an XB800 maybe? Or a Force 4?
Knobs are wrong, but I think that’s in the right ballpark.
I had a force 40 years ago — nice bass.
devnulljpParticipantGrab some samples and load them into a sampler?
http://www.freesound.org/tagsViewSingle.php?id=2561Or hang on a bit, sell your kidneys, and buy one of the reissues due out this year.
http://www.moogmusic.com/taurus/?section=product&product_id=21299devnulljpParticipantAnyone any idea?
Also, how do I find the input on the board and how do I ground it? I’m getting this weird RF oscillation through one of my (old) amps. If I turn the amp off with the DMM still plugged in it makes a really loud continuous buzzing sound).
I get the feeling there’s residual current picked up on the earth somewhere, so if I can better ground the pedal it might help. Here’s a thumbnail of the business end of the board:
