Could be a 2PDT switch instead of the 3PDT in mine. I heard some of the earlier ones had those and weren’t TB.
Post a pic maybe? At a guess, I bet you could just bang in a 3PDT switch (the 9 pin one) and wire it up like mine. It’d be TB then too, all at a cost of about $5~10.

I was on eBay, and I was shooting for one with the Tone Wicker just because of the added features and what-not, but it got out of my price range, so I ended up getting a regular NYC Muff.

I got my wicker for $60…shipped…from a guy on another forum. They get quite cheap on TGP too. No mojo :D

Nice. I have more big muffs that is probably healthy, but that takes the cake. I’ve never seen that Octave Multiplexer before either.
As for the original question — how do things get to this point? — unfortunately $$$ is usually involved :D

I don’t really think of it as a big muff though — more like an op-amp distortion…more like a Rat maybe?
Different type of clipping, but I still kinda dig em though (which is why I have three…how’d that happen?).
Wouldn’t ever say ‘no’ to one. You’ll like it.
The Jumbo Tone Bender is more like a Muff than the IC Big Muff, albeit lacking a gain stage.

I’ve used one on bass and it handled it fine.

v5 IC muff? They’re hovering around the $100~$150 mark, although you see a lot of crackpipe $250+ asking prices (they usually don’t sell).
Saw one last week with a BIN of $90. I snagged a EH1322 a few weeks ago for $120 and a 3003 a few months ago for $140 (shipped).

I initially changed the wrong resistor when modding my Small Stone for volume drop and it did something like you describe with the color switch on. Self-oscillating whooping and whooshing. Cool, weird, but not what I wanted at all.
(I think I pulled R10 and replaced it w/o checking properly — should have been R11).
    Which version do you have?
See my earlier post with pics of a rev J and link to schematic and info here: https://www.ehx.com/forums/viewthread/982/

So if you want to try getting weird noises going again….

The designation ‘original’ may be a little misleading. That’s a v3, from the early 80s.
    I’d call the 1974-1978 v1 EH1048/CA3094AE OTAs ‘original’
    ss_us_v1s.jpg
v2 is still essentially the same circuit, same OTAs, different graphic.

Yours is a third-gen with a pair of LM13600AN and one LM324N. Still ‘vintage’ and still a nice phaser.

OTOH, I got mine last year for $150…and a 3034 with a bad switch (one squirt of deoxit later and it’s fine).
Bargains can be had if you’re patient.

You can fix the volume drop with a simple resistor value change.
There’s details in the mods pages.

    Where is that?

Depending on which version you have, it’s a couple of resistor value changes.
There’s info about the mod here for the v3 I think.
I found some info here that talks about my v.2 — issue J — and a schematic

I also posted some pics here after wrestling with the same question for mine.

You can easily change it to a effect on LED, just true bypass it and swap the Led wiring around a bit, I done it to my micro synth, took about ten minutes.

Could you please help me do this? I have a Dlx BMP and a Micro Synth (and a Q Tron + with the same issue) and would love to change the LED function.

I posted a short how to to fix the LED issue on my QTron.
Turns it into an effect on/off indicator instead of the dumb power on light.

Have any of you ever seen a point-to-point wired Axis w/ no circuit board?

EDIT: Like this one (again, not mine unfortunately)

    …or a folding guitar…

I had no idea they even made folding guitars until a few days ago! until i was looking for an EHX hot tubes demo on youtube when i saw this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DXoAMEeV0vw

it’s awesome, but rediculously expensive, over $3,000.

I have one of these and I’ve travelled for months around the world with it. It’s great, not cheap, but great. There are also cheap versions made in China, but they’re not as good.
