deepsunMemberQuote:Thanks Best to write the techs. There is a noise floor anytime you plug something in.
Okay. Thanks.
deepsunMemberQuote:Thanks for the audio clip.
That noise is HUGE! I assume you are cranking the daylights out of for demonstration.
There is a chance the 720,s noise floor may be to high for how you are using it.
There may also be a chance your second unit has a problem, in which case please contact the techs at info@ehx.comFWIW we have had almost no complaints about the noise floor.
Sorry!
Yeah, sorry about the insane levels. I realized my master track was adding some wild compression. I changed out the tracks, so if you listen again, it should be so quiet that you’ll have to turn up your volume, but I’d suggested starting low in case your browser cached the old recording. That recording is more representative of what it sounds like. But again, on headphones I notice a difference in the noise floor when the 720 is and isn’t in my signal chain.
In contacting the techs, do you think it would be possible for them to plug one in there and see if they get any noticeable increase in the noise floor? I’m not in the mood to run through the whole replacement process right now. If it’s the case that other units exhibit the same behavior, then maybe I’ll just live with it.
Thanks!
deepsunMemberHere’s a recording of the noise: https://soundcloud.com/sonsofslumber/ehx-720-looper-white-noise/s-QkaO7
Loop volume is at noon, EQ for the recorded and master tracks are flat. I realize the noise is “faint” in the recording, but trust me when I say there’s a noticeable difference when the pedal isn’t a part of my signal chain. The looper isn’t playing anything back, it’s just powered up and running a single output cable to my interface. It’s definitely not as loud in a normal setup as in the recording, but it is noticeable enough to me that adding or removing the 720 from my signal chain makes quite a difference in the noise floor.
deepsunMemberQuote:Thank you. Engineering has not received one of these faulty units back yet and we don’t know what’s going on.Well, GearTree just sold out and they don’t know when their next order from you guys will arrive. Would it be any faster to just send it back to you directly for replacement? If not, I’ll send it back to GearTree and wait on a replacement from them. I’m just bummed that either way I’m going to lose a lot of time with it. Thanks!
deepsunMemberQuote:Quote:I just got a 720 today and am having the exact same issue heard in the YouTube video. The noise sounds the same — a static, digital artifact the occurs only during playback. I’ve tried using the included power supply and have completely isolated the pedal from any other pedals. I tried plugging it into an outlet that I know is on a different circuit in my house, and recorded my guitar into the looper without an output cable from the looper to anything else. I’ve tried it into my guitar amp and directly into my computer interface. The noise, static, artifact persists in all scenarios. It’s clear that the noise is associated with the unit itself because saving recordings to a couple of memory banks and moving the unit to different outlets, and between my amp and my interface, because the noise occurs as soon as playback starts.Has anyone else gotten a unit without the issue? The guy in the linked YouTube video ended up going with a Ditto X2 because he couldn’t find a fix. I’d rather not do that, so I’m hoping the shop I bought it from can get me a replacement that is quiet.
From what dealer did you purchase your 720 Looper? We do recommend you exchange it for a new one but also we would like to check this unit to see what’s going on with it.
I got it brand new from GearTree. Since it was the weekend and I knew I wouldn’t get a response from them until today, I tested the unit a little more to see if I could eliminate the noise.
I tried all of the memory banks and the noise persists. As well, I tried using a 9V battery, thinking maybe the entire house has circuitry issues, even though none of my other pedals exhibit anything close to what the 720 is doing. I also tried another guitar. None of those things made a difference — the noise presents itself in all scenarios during playback of a loop. The noise actually gets worse when I engage a combination of reverse and 1/2 speed.
When they get back to me, I’ll mention that you want to take a look at it. Thanks!
