Hi there that’s a good demo! i think you kinda have the talent for making demos – it was interesting, good quality, the right amount of talking and decent playing
I personally don’t like multieffect units very much.
It’s probably mainly because i’m a stomp-box-enthusiast i just love experimenting with different settings and combinations and when it comes to that, it’s easier to me to come up with new things when i have my tools lined up on the ground and i know exactly where is everything, what’s the settings and what does what
BUT if i wasn’t so crazy about the effects and i just wanted to spice-up my sound sometimes… not caring about the “sound-pioneering” … i’d totally buy TC Electronics Nova System and just rock out
OK, i tried the 12V in a band situation. more clear and pronounced, less compressed sound. also it’s really LOUDER, i had to lower Loudness pot from noon to like 10 o’clock
i play a Yamaha Telecaster (97′ i believe) with DiMarzio The Chopper Hb in the bridge position and Twang King SC in the neck position into the beautiful 4 EL84s George Dennis Mighty Mouse with selected JJ tubes and Celestion V30 speaker
in a band i play experimental rock music heavily influenced by funk and jazz. The DLS has no problem with cutting through the mix in a small garage or in a live situation. for solos i use DLS or my boutique Fuzz Face clone and i stopped looking for any “solo jump” – the DLS is awesome for both rhytm and lead playing. It can clean up pretty good and has a decent reaction to dynamics of playing. The harmonics and sustain are just astonishing, the natural sounding feedback is easy to achieve and sounds great, the artificial harmonics have never been so easy to get!
it has plenty of gain and it can even deliver some pretty heavy sounds – you just have to know how to use your right hand but for heavy music, i’d recommend buing the SCOD by Catalinbread
by the way i recommend you trying it on more than 9volts… i tried it on 12 and the difference was pretty clear – i can’t really describe it, but 12V was better… i can imagine 18V would sound pretty rad
edit: everyone is so psyched about stacking other pedals with DLS. i have to say that with settings i use it can’t stack very well with the ( fully cranked ) fuzz face however, i’m not surprised… i believe that with other overdrives/different fuzzes and distortions it will sound killer
How do you like the DLS? I saw your post in the lounge about it a few weeks ago. And I actually ordered one last night in navy blue. Hoping it gets here next week;)
TGM
hey, man, i’ll post my review to my thread in the lounge for keeping this thread at least partially on-topic
Just ordered a Dirty Little Secret. I’ll let ya know when it gets here!
aah, hell yeah i got it recently and i’m totally blown away by the sound… i hope you will love it as well (and i hope i’ll hear it in some future song! )
by the way abotu the 5 boosters in a row… ZVEX Box of Rock is essentially just a bunch of Super Hard-ons in series. so no problem
Crybaby -> Electronic Orange Moon Face -> EHX Stereo Polyphase -> Catalinbread DLS -> F5 Tap Tremolo -> Carl Martin Red Repeat -> EHX SMMH
you may notice the small space in the lower left corner… that’s for my future Holy Grail
by the way – is the HG suitable for spacial ambientish/post-rock reverbs?
i’d like to buy it because of the hall mode for those sounds so i can stop using my SMMH in reverse mode for the superambient reverb and start using it for reverse delay (which is awesome!!! way better than on the Boss DD_20 for example)
so far i tried it with my friends mesa boogie and PRs custom 24 and it was… interesting… but i’m really curious about the tele/el84 george dennis combo i have… i’ll try it on sunday
i can’t wait i heard that people like it with fender-ish amps and the george dennis sounds kinda fender-ish… we’ll see
as far as i can tell now it sounds like marshall!
(and i’m not sure i’m happy with how much like marshall it sounds )
