CVSSParticipant
Just spent the better part of today going through all 9 of the Synth 9 presets and assessing them for chord playing as well as for use in soloing. There are many good options available if you want to play predominately chords. With respect to soloing, I was looking for a cleaner sound (as opposed to a dirtier sound). I think that the Mini Mood with the volume of the portamento note and portamento speed turned down to about 8:30AM will work. The Solo Synth preset was just too dirty for me, no matter what I did to the controls. If there awas a way to get rid of 95% of the fuzz while keeping the sustain, this would be prefect. The other surprise for me was the String Synth present. I was thinking that it would be good for chords in the background of a song (like on many smooth jazz songs) but I found that if I rolled back the attack time to about 9:00AM, I could make this work for solos which require fast picking. The sound is very clean and there is lots of sustain.
Lots of rambling above, let me know if I can clarify anything.
CVSSParticipantJust wanted you all to know that I recorded my 1st bass track with the EHX Pitch Fork (Kenny Chesny – When The Sun Goes Down) using a hollowbody electric guitar with humbucker pickups – bass pickup, guitar volume on about 7, guitar tone rolled down to about 2. Set the Pitch Fork to 1 octave down and the blend to 5:30 on the dial
Track sounds great! I am convinced no one will know that a regular guitar was used when they hear the track
CVSSParticipantWhile I wait for the “Bass 9” pedal, I decided to buy the pitch fork.
CVSSParticipantQuote:Wow, if that was possible, I think it would be the most popular pedal in the series. I wonder if EHX designers read these posts? Let’s hope the Bass9 is already in development!I second the motion
CVSSParticipantThank you very much for the detailed feedback. After I posted this thread, I stumbled across the pitch fork when reviewing some other forum responses to my topic. I have to say I am now leaning in that direction. Right now the only “must have” for me is the ability to play clean sounding single bass notes over 12 bar blues progressions for the most part and loop them so I can practice soloing over them. Any other features that I get are a plus but not required.
CVSSParticipantI would be interested in this as well. I create a lot of tracks to play over and these days, it seems like strings are in many of the songs that I want to create tracks for. All in.
CVSSParticipantI have a similar problem to that described above with the Synth 9 pedal. I works just fine in bypass mode. When I hit the footswitch, the light comes on and no synth sounds in any of the 9 channels. This happened after about a week of on and off usage. I am using the EHX supplied power chord/adapter and it is plugged directly into my wall socket. I am now a bit nervous about using this pedal on gig.
I have tried removing all cables, switching guitars, amps etc. The problem seems to be intermittent. It happens occasionally, but not all the time.
Any advice to help fix this issue would be appreciated as I really want to use this pedal on gigs – synth sounds are fantastic when it works!
FYI – I also own KEY9 and B9 pedals and have had no problems with either one
