Right out of the gates I zeroed in on reasonably convincing double bass and cello tones. Violins seem slightly out of reach, but I expected that they would be. There’s a lot of complexity in high-register bow/string noise, etc. that I don’t imagine I’ll get. If anyone has any ideas, or has had any success in approximating violin, I’m all ears.

    student-grade cello bow.
    they’re about $60. rosin is about $7.
it’s a pretty convincing way to do the violin stuff on guitar.

nah then you can’t get at the play/record buttons. i’ve started playing with one bare foot so i can putz with the sliders/buttons [track select, new loop] without worrying about stomping on them (and then I use the foot controller with the in-shoe foot).

first off, wow. how long did it take you to piece together the collection you’ve got going on?

second: pedal line- there’s no “one right way” to make a pedal line (keep in mind, there are wrong ways).

you’re probably going to want to start with your compressor.
delays + verbs generally go at the end.
envelope filters and pitch shifters (generally) go before distortion.

just as important as putzing with the knobs and dials is playing around with what goes where. if you want to make things easier on yourself (at least for figuring out what sounds better where, not necessarily for gigging/playing), pick up a patch bay and an extra pack or two of patch cables.

    Xan-
    1- get a boss LS-2
2- set it to A+B -> Bypass mode
3- from send A, put in the freeze and then a volume pedal- patch it back into return A
4- from send B, put a patch cable into return B

what would you like to see done differently? or are you just trolling? I mean, help the community help you, don’t just ‘it’s shite’ us.

    Judd? lol
    Sammy works for me.

and the Black Finger would be a good choice for getting a more predictable level out of your bass for pops/snaps/whatever.
Also, I suppose it depends on what you’re playing but a lot of people find delay on bass distracting because it, you know, repeats yr notes and isn’t necessarily in time with the rest of the band (I like it though, i think it sounds lovely, just keep yr blend toward the dryer end).

What kind of music are you looking to play?

is your name Kim? every girl bassist i’ve known has been named Kim

for the most part, you can use any pedal on a bass (delays/chorus/flangers/phasers/filters/distortions/etc)- however there are ones to stay away from-

Vibrato and Fast-speed choruses – you’d probably want to have a ‘Bass Chorus’ type pedal or something a little slower, so your low end and note definition stay intact.

Tremolo – this is kind of in the same boat, because of the low frequencies of a bass. it’ll sound muddy.

and a good tube effect, probably the English Muff’n, huh? given the Bassman -> Marshall -> Muff’n circuit heritage?

I’m a big fan of using what you’ve got, or what’s available cheap by you. the Digitech RDS units are pretty dang cheap on ebay (i’ve bought two of the RDS 3.6’s for $40 apiece). Older multi-effects racks will have some pretty great delays too (the ART FXR springs to mind).

as far as pedals, the DOD DFX9, any of the Boss DD series [granted, these are not the cheapest], the Boss RV-2/3 or PS-2/3, the digitech XDD, EHX #1 echo, Johnson Analog Delay (AD-1? can’t remember the model number). it doesn’t need to be feature filled for vocals. just something basic. I included the Johnson in there because it is kind of an analog modeling delay (it is a well made PT3299 pedal, if that means anything to you) and you can control the high roll off, it’s good sounding and it’s like $50 new.

yeep again. you might want to use digital or something without a ton of high-end roll-off though for vocals.

I just realized the freezer doesn’t have a way to eliminate the dry sound. For someone who uses parallel effects loops, this is a huge disappointment for me, and I think a big oversight.

I wanted to run it parallel to my dry/fuzz signal so then I could hold something and futz with it with my HOG and other effects while I play unfutzed with clean stuff at the same time.

honestly, if you’ve got enough gear to run effects in parallel, you probably have an old distortion that can be used as a ‘mute’ switch to cut out the dry signal. the set decay times are the only real problem I have with it- what’s wrong with the idea of using a variable capacitor or resistor for that?

the voicebox doesn’t, but don’t let that stop you from using it live. just get a delay pedal that can do 100%wet to put after it.

So whats the difference between the Neo Clone and the Nano Clone? The only difference I see is a depth knob added to the Neo. But otherwise, is that it?

nano clone is non-daisy-chain-able. not the same circuit as the small clone. neo clone presumably is, but there will probably be cork sniffers after it comes out who say it doesn’t sound as good.

if you don’t like how they look, spray paint is like $2 a can. make a stencil and grab a couple of cans.
