for the sampling thing? not really. none i’ve come across, anyways.
for the looping though, there’s the DOD DFX94 or the Muza FD90. or buy an RC-2 used [prices seem to hover from $90 to $150]. or the digitech Jam-man solo, although I really hate the footswitches on these and they use a 9VAC power supply.
for buying a pricey pedal while keeping a woman happy, write her a song that you need THAT specific pedal for. It’s always worked for me.January 4, 2011 at 7:47 pm in reply to: Germanium 4 Big Muff Pi making strange crackling noise #113504CryabetesParticipantQuote:the distortion side, which is very quiet.I’d be more worried about this.
No it’s probably just a bad footswitch or solder joint. contact EHX and have them fix you up with a new one or a repair job.
CryabetesParticipantyou’d sample it.
this is from memory (I haven’t owned an RC-2 in about a year- since getting my 2880, really) so forgive me if it’s a little hazy:
run a cable from the line out of your computer into the input of the RC-2.
I think it’s the “play/record” mode that the RC-2 needs to be in. the one with the function knob pointing straight up. Light should be off.
capture it like you would if you were looping it.
turn the function knob to “write”
hit the “enter” button- the light should flash for a little bit
turn the knob to the “loop/one shot”
hit the enter button – light should go from green to orange.
the sample should now play once through when you hit the footswitch.CryabetesParticipantotherwise, the Boss SP202 is the only thing I can think of but it’s still probably cheaper [and easier to hook up] to get an RC-2.
CryabetesParticipantarray of Boss RC-2’s/RC-20XL’s. I once made a footplayable drum kit with them [and realised I should just actually buy a drum machine].
CryabetesParticipantjust wanted to offer some luck and mention that I miss playing shows where I’m underprepared. some of your best material hits when you are.
CryabetesParticipantQuote:i have it hooked up with a power supply. heres wat im using it with:
schecter C1 hellaraiser, peavey vypyr 75wat. ive got a power supply for it so theres no need for batteries. ive tried unplugging the power and waiting before i plug it back in but theres no change. my friend suggested that iit may be the way i shut everything down? can that really affect it? i either shut off the bypass first or the amp first. i dont remember which.are you using any of the on-board effect presets on the vypyr?
CryabetesParticipantthere might be a ms or two latency, as with all pitch shifters, which I imagine is why they included the dry slider [and why the boss oc-3 doesn’t go 100% wet].
CryabetesParticipantthe Carl Martin Red Repeat was based off a PT329x chip, I believe; the DMM’s use MN3005’s and the DMB’s use MN3205’s. It’s not really a fair comparison. The Delayla looks like it was one of the MN chips, which would be a better comparison, except the Delayla wasn’t really designed to last, apparently. It’s probably a trimmer or slightly-faulty part [perhaps in the compander portion of the circuit, if it’s noise being generated].
Still, don’t putz with the trims yourself- contact EHX and inquire if they can help you.CryabetesParticipantyou are kind of limited with the Nano series in that you aren’t ever going to have super complex effects like a Nano HOG [prove me wrong Mike Matthews!], but as far as basic effects [and, if you go up to the XO line, some not so basic ones] and whether it compromises your ‘tone’, they’re just as good as many other circuits, and better than quite a few out there.
CryabetesParticipantSIB Echodrive.
Peavey CS800 with a custom 4×18″ cab.
DOD DFX98
Alesis Formantz
Alesis Fidelity X
and another 2880. four channels is barely enough.CryabetesParticipant………..you’re running a boost pedal into a compressor? that is perhaps not the wisest idea.
sorry I didn’t really read through your post the first time to see that- just glanced and checked the first two or three.re-arranging your line so it looks like this:
Octave -> Comp -> Env. Filter [Dr Q] -> Boost -> Overdrives -> EQ -> Volume -> Modulation/Delay
will probably fix your noise issue. [also, if you had problems with the NS-2 cutting off your delays, couldn’t you have the boomerang after the NS-2?]The Envelope filter is cutting frequencies that aren’t covered by its bandpass, right? so the output on those frequencies is lower. the Compressor is trying to compensate for that- they raise the noise floor to maintain a predictable output volume but they do it without regards to the EQ spectrum.
CryabetesParticipantgod I wish.
alas, no, I found it used for under $200 so that was good enough for me.CryabetesParticipantswitch the boost and the envelope filter and a fair few problems will sort themselves up.
no clue on the trim though. -
