active pickups shouldn’t make a HOG clip; too loud of an output signal would. And why would clipping matter for a distortion?
CryabetesParticipantand you aren’t daisy chaining it to other effects or anything? I mean, generally, you want to at least supply double the amperage of what you’re expecting to power it with, so the LBM takes about 6mA; looking in the current draw thread, the Memory boy takes ~25mA. It could be something wrong with the jack. Have you tried it on a battery clip to adapter?
CryabetesParticipantyour local hardware store probably has them. Otherwise you can order replacement parts from smallbearelectronics, etc.
CryabetesParticipantwhat’s the milliamp rating on your power supply?

Also, pretty sure that politics should stay away from the technical/electronic aspect of playing music. In the songwriting sure but politics do not determine which opamp you use or wither or not to turn on your ringmod.
CryabetesParticipantQuote:Or am I better off simply trying to find a used Soul Preacher? Mind you that although I own a Big Muff Pi for fuzz, I don’t own a distortion pedal. These do not seem like concordant statements in my mind.
I mean, why would whether or not you should get a soul preacher be dependant on whether you own a distortion pedal?
and also you realize the element of a distortion that makes it a distortion is having clipping diodes, yeah? which the big muff pi has?
CryabetesParticipantif you’re knowlegable about soldering and stuff, it shouldn’t be much hassle to put a new switch in. There’s no lifetime warranty on EHX product. and they’ll fix pedals for a small fee – check under the support header -> contact us.
CryabetesParticipant1 – which special DMM thing? they’re all BBD delays except the SMMwH (which is awesome for other reasons)
2 – probably use it normal before you shell out for a mod, yeah? also Analogman? really? plenty other modders out there. Don’t pay for the name.
3 – no, they’re pretty rad too.CryabetesParticipantI had a similar problem with my Biyang FZ7 (fuzz); I think I just stomped it too hard one day and yeah. But now it gets brighter when I play harder so that’s kind of neat.
CryabetesParticipantwith a delay, pitchshifters are really fun. each repeat just keeps climbing in pitch.
CryabetesParticipantJust get a Red Panda grain shifter.
CryabetesParticipantShould be hearable as slapback but most of the range would be thickening. might be able to do some neat grain shifting/grain synthesis type stuff at 3.5ms. might just phase cancel with the original signal though.
