Yea, i probably won’t buy any more boss pedals. Except maybe their chromatic tuner pedal. Or the DS-2 because Frusciante uses it.

Even Boss’ pedals tuner has been bested by korg, because the pitchblack has true bybass, unlike the boss. The DS-2 seems pretty cool, by I just use my amp for distortion or overdrive. The only gain based pedals that I buy are Fuzz, that’s where the Big Muff come in. Have you seen Boss’ fuzz? That thing looks like a joke!

There should be an effects only store. That would be cool.

Yeah, that would be pretty cool. proguitarshop.com’s main focus is effects, so if they opened some stores then I could see it happening.

I’m looking to get another muff (it seems as if I’m looking to get a new everything these days, when will I be satisfied?) and my choices are as follows (I play normal 6 string guitar by the way):

    Russian Big Muff
    Double Muff
Bass Big Muff (I heard that this thing is modeled somewhat after the Green Russian, which I really love the sound of)
Perhaps a used Green Russian if I can find one for a reasonable price, most seem to go for around $200)

Any suggestions? I’m thinking either the black USSR or double, just because they’re pretty cheap.

Also, you bought five pedals in one day?! I wish I had that kind of money.

I got a Small Clone for $40 at a used music shop that replaced a $300 piece of “boutique” junk. It’s from the mid to late 90’s I believe, but it was plenty used. I had to use a white marker to draw a line back on the knob, it was totally worn away. It does a warbly, vibrato sound and a simple chorus sound better than the expensive pedal. I play bass and I like that it seems to add a little high-end chime to the sound when the knob is at about ten o’clock and the depth knob is up. When I run the SC into a Boss RE-20 Space Echo I can still hear the chime cutting through the echo/reverb; very cool!

Boutique pedals are overrated and overpriced. I see no point in purchasing them if you can get a better EHX effect for about a third of the price. Boutique=Evil (in most cases at least). Sorry I’m clogging this thread with all of my useless ramblings, this will be the last one.

I know that John Frusciante uses one of the Boss chorus pedals, but does anyone know if he ever used the Small Clone?

I don’t think that he did.

I got the Small Clone a few months ago. I was origonally going to get a boss chorus pedal but when i played the small clone, it just sounded so much better.

I think you’ll find that to be true of any EHX/Boss comparison. Analog just sounds better than digital (this is a fact). That is also the reason why I will never (ever) purchase a single Boss product, when I could get a comparable (somewhat) EHX for the same or lower price.

The Haz seems pretty cool (really cool even) but I like me some analog delay. That thing sounds like it would be fun just to mess around with, but I don’t think that someone as simple as myself could find an application for some of the more crazy features. I just like the simple, 3 knob delays. MXR Carbon Copy is the best analog for the price (it may be the only analog for the price).

I got my long awaited POG! And a $100 gift card to my favorite local record store (graywhale). And some other shit that isn’t as cool.

what kind of music do you listen to?

I’ll listen to most any kind of rock (I’m not real good with my subgenres), old school punk, alternative, a little bit of blues, just whatever tickles my fancy. Here’s some of my favorite artists/bands:

Alice in Chains, Beck (probably my favorite artist, and biggest influence), The Black Keys, Black Sabbath, Bob Dylan, The Clash, David Bowie, Dead Kennedys, The Doors, The Greenhornes, The Jimi Hendrix Experience, Kyuss, Led Zeppelin, Meat Puppets, Melvins, Metallica, Mudhoney, Nine Inch Nails, Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Primus, Ramones, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Rolling Stones, Sex Pistols, The Smashing Pumpkins, Sonic Youth, The Stooges, Tom Petty, The Velvet Underground, The White Stripes, The Who

That should give you a pretty good idea.

I want! I could keep all of my guitar related stuff in there, including but not limited to unused effects. Minibar would be good too…

Cool, cool. I’m looking to get a Vox eventually, but first I wanna get an orange tiny terror for portability.

Man, my collection is pathetic compared to most of the people here. I only have 9, (Small Clone, Big Muff, POG, Metal Muff, XO Mistress, crybaby, phase 90, carbon copy, 10 band eq). Even though I only have the SC, BM, POG, and Crybaby on my board, and hardly use the other mentioned effects, I don’t think I will ever sell any of them. I’ll keep them just for the sake of having more effects. I too, keep the boxes, nice way to keep dust of inactive boxes and I’m also a bit obsessive when it comes to stuff like that. As great as effects are, they don’t outweigh the importance of a solid amp and guitar.

By the way, how is that fOXX tone machine treating you? I’m thinking of getting one for my next fuzz. The demos I’ve heard have a wonderfuly over the top fuzz sound (almost Univox superfuzz like) and the octave up is extremley gnarly (as in rad, that is).

Me of little faith by Lewis Black seems like it would be pretty good. Haven’t read it yet, but I’m a huge fan of his so I assume it would be quite hillarious.

Is anyone here good with photoshop? Perhaps some mock-ups of these ideas are in order?

The only Fender gear I currently own is a Hot Rod Deluxe, but I’m saving up to get a Highway One Telecaster sometime soon. Any brand goes with EHX (Well, except Jackson, Ibanez, BC Rich, Dean, ESP, and all of the other generic “metal” guitar companies). EHX is vintage (for the most part) so vintage styled guitars are best paired with their effects.
