ChumleyParticipant
I didn’t realize that you weren’t playing the original track until it ended…
SIMPLY INCREDIBLE!
ChumleyParticipantQuote:good point i was acaully(wrong spelling) thinking of somthing that will fit the board easy like the mxr carbon copy not the SMMW/HH also where is the best place for tuner pedal?Carbon Copys are cool, but EHX is coming out with their response to it within month or two, so wait for that, I’d say. And tuner after fuzz so it can be used as a mute, but before modulation or delay.
ChumleyParticipant*headdesk* The point. You’re missing it.
Not only is a comment like that unhelpful, it’s also extremely elitist. The fact is, without distortion, THERE IS NO HARD ROCK. Just because you have distortion in your chain, doesn’t mean your basing it on an archetype. And besides, give me a three pedal combo that doesn’t clearly fall into some archetype or another. You can’t.
EDIT: I was adressing Costch, for the record.
ChumleyParticipantI mess around with pedal order a lot. One sound I LOVE is Leslie Sim (I have this great Lexicon rack unit with this great Leslie patch that gives you this control over whether the highs or lows are being rotor’d. It’s amazing) into a long feedback slapback delay into a Big Muff. It sounds HUGE. I tried that going into a Super Reverb with the reverb maxed out, it’s amazing.
Anyhow, my guitarist’s chain:
Guitar->Volume->Red Witch Fuzz God II->Bassballs->Small Clone->Big Muff->Small Stone->Holy Stain->SMMwHThe dirt spaced evenly throughout the signal gives lots of flexibility; you can get really trippy, weird effects by running the SC and SS into the Holy Stain, or more standard sounds by going BMP->SS. The reason the volume goes first is a) tuner out is more precise and b) to control the oscillations of the Fuzz God better. It’s a weird chain, but I think it works.
ChumleyParticipantHuh… I dunno if I would trust the Dolphin Music prices…
ChumleyParticipantNow that ya mention it, it DOES sound like a synth wah… that gives me an awesome idea. Enigma->POG2!
You get twice the octave effects of the Microsynth, plus detuning, attack decay wah, attack delay, and a fixed filter. And if the distortion on the Enigma is a square wave…
Goddam, I love EHX so much.
ChumleyParticipantOh, you made it sound like you were into metal… my bad.
If you’re into hard rock, def go with the BMP. Also, on the subject of Tube Zipper, I meant manual wah, not autowah. But if you’re cool with autowah, then Bassballs is a great choice. So:
Bassballs->Big Muff->Stereo Memory Man?
That sound like it? Sorry if I’m being too in-your-face, but gear is my thing, and nothing makes me happier than thinking that I’m helping people…
ChumleyParticipantYes.
Yes.
It also needs a Fuzz Factory. And probably an Octavia. It’d legitimately be The Best Thing Ever. ™
ChumleyParticipantVery cool! I love the finish, it’s beautiful.
ChumleyParticipantQuote:I’d focus on a solid amp based on the music you’ve mentioned.Messa Boogie is what most of the bands you’ve mentioned use for amps.
As for effects I think they mostly use digital multi effects – maybe a whammy or two in there as well.
I’d play with different distortions: muffs, old ibanez boxes, digitech (they seem to focus on music of these type of bands), etc..
I’d also maybe (I can’t stand ’em, but who knows) check out one of the newer boss multi floor units with the exp/vol pedal and assignable effects.
Sorry, I disagree (mostly). The amp advice is good; def go Mesa Boogie, ‘specially if you have an Ibanez, ESP, or other guitar of the sort.
Whatever you do, don’t go BOSS multi. They sound shitty, are overpriced, and are no fun to play with.
The one Digitech series that I endorse is Hardwire. A good dirt section would be Hardwire Valve Distortion/Metal Muff; the VD has some amazing bluesy tones, and also works as a nice (almost) clean boost for even more MM craziness. And it’s cheap. So, let’s revise that board I suggested:Valve Distortion (which is true bypass)->Metal Muff (buffered bypass, which I find better)->SMMw/H (Can’t remember, but you have a buffer in front of it anyway, so it should be fine). You prolly’ll want a Wah in there, as well. I recommend Vox. And yes, all of those pedals are battery enabled.
ChumleyParticipantCooking and chasing girls are approved of. Eating and sex are both important parts of human nature. The rest, isn’t as important as music.
And don’t be messing with Queen.
ChumleyParticipantOkay, so knobs on the Enigma/Riddle: Blend, Mode, Attack, Decay, Start, Stop, Q, Sensitivity. Dry out and wet out, foot-switchable distortion and expression pedal in.
QTron+: Mode, Response, Range, Peak, Gain, Boost, switchable polarity, and FX loop.
In short, they’re bascially for different types of music: I’m guessing the Q-Balls is for more experimental stuff, whereas the Q-Tron is for that classic funk sound. Just my guess.
ChumleyParticipantHonestly, I can’t see the necessity. I’ll take a look at the pictures that’ve been posted and get back to you. There might be some unique features…
ChumleyParticipantThe Wiggler does a stunning Leslie, but I don’t recall it having an expression in… I’ll go check.
ChumleyParticipantMy friend, I have read and reread the Hitchhikers series more times than is actually physically possible, and I don’t get that reference… The closest thing is the eddies in the space time continuum, which caused a couch to appear on prehistoric Earth, but I don’t think that involved turning INTO said couch.
Or maybe I should reread So Long and Thanks For All the Fish…
Again…
