Ok, Ron’s suggestion to connect the wire to the middle connector of the switch seemed to have worked fine. A little contact cleaner as well and we’re back in 1979!!

Also, the input (and output) jack only has one ‘springy bit’ for the tip. But there is a tab that connects directly to the interior of the jack, so same principal I guess. However, it doesn’t seem like the wire would have originally connected there. The way it is curled seems like it would have connected to something a little closer to the other end.
