The Blade Runner soundtrack was composed by Vangelis for Ridley Scott’s 1982 film Blade Runner. It is mostly a dark, melodic combination of classical composition and synthesizers which mirrors the futuristic film nor envisioned by Scott.
Vangelis main keyboard was the Yamaha CS80,
Below are the chains and settings I used to recreate the theme using Electro-Harmonix pedals:
If you have ANY questions, please ask!

bill ruppertParticipantThe output should be close to bypass whit the slider up…
For the string bass sound are you using the Microsynth after the HOG?
The Micro really gave it the String bass sound
I also used the original slider and dropped the pitch with the foot pedal.
Its a slightly different sound.
A compressor will boost the output is needed as well as any clean booster like the LPB-1 or Analogizer.Bill
Quote:I just bought a brand new HOG with the intention of getting that cool string bass sound on the Effectology demo, and I’m finding that the output of the HOG is way lower than dry signal. To get that sound, you need dry output all the way down, since I’m using only the -1 octave slider. I’d like to get a loop going with this bass tone (with my Stereo Memory Man), then go back to my lead guitar tone and jam over that.
Since the volume is pretty quiet, what is a good solution? Use a boost pedal?
bill ruppertParticipantThanks!
The ambiance in the front is the Ravish in freeze drone mode.
I looped it in the Stereo Memory Man and added a second drone with different pitches.
It created a big poly chord. The delay and reverb I used is below.
Nothing special, just set them so it sounds good to you:Quote:Hi Bill!Wonderful stuff, as usual, just wondering about the settings for the ambiance at the beginning?
In the video you say that you use ‘A Stereo Memory Man delay and Cathedral reverb’ what settings please?
Thanks!
bill ruppertParticipantHi Rick
I just did it by ear but I bet if you search the web its out there!Quote:bumping old topic, is there any way to get the tabliture for the synth solo’s? or even the whole song?December 13, 2011 at 2:55 pm in reply to: EHX Electro-Harmonix Effectology, Vol.17 Transforming Guitar to Bass #116508bill ruppertParticipantBy all means experiment but I think the pedal where the LPB-1 is needs to be clean.
Its job is jut to boost the signal up to a level the mod input can use.
A compressor pedal turned up in volume would work there as well. You could add the Big Muff after the Ring Thing for more distortion, that would sound great.
Good luck and have fun!
BillQuote:Question; as a bass player myself and wanting to get the wicked sound you have in the Ring Thing demo with a bit more OOMF, would a Bass Big Muff set to a high gain level cause any tracking issues due to harmonic saturation? My Ring Thing is in the mail, and watching this vid sold me on the self-tune effect, but i’m unsure if the distortion will confuse the heck out of it.Edit to clarify, the BBM would be replacing the LPB1 in the feedback chain.
bill ruppertParticipantThanks Grim!
Its a Beatle tune “Lucy in the sky with diamonds”.
Quote:ok as soon as i had heard of this device i knew i needed it, it replaces my desire to purchase a number of worldly instruments to incorporate into my music, all in one compact unit!and an awesome job on the vid as usual Bill, but i must ask because its driving me nuts now….what is that tune you start to get into at 2:42 mark?
bill ruppertParticipantThanks Robert!
When the unit is in bypass the guitar in is routed out to both outputs.
In other words yes, in bypass both amps will get the straight guitar signal.
BillQuote:Good morning Bill,
First, thanks so much for your incredibly clear and inspiring presentation of the Ravish! I have performed live with the Ravish using several Vox amps so as to have a dedicated sound source for the drone. This worked out pretty well. My question is, when the Ravish is in Bypass Mode, is there still a signal out from the Sympathetic Output along with the Lead Output? The straight signal would then be routed to both my amp set ups. All the best, Robert.October 31, 2011 at 12:27 am in reply to: Effectology Episode 24 ” Dr. Frankenstein’s Laboratory” #116246bill ruppertParticipantEffectology Episode 43 ” Dr. Frankenstein’s Laboratory”
Below are settings for the Cathedral Organ and the Exorcist Theme.

Ring thing into POD2.
Experiment with different pick ups and your guitars tone control.
Sorry no TAB on the song.Quote:It occurred to me that I could get the same effect using the Ring Thing to tune down and a POG to change the attack. What do you think? What order should I put them in?also, would you mind posting the tab for that, it was killer.
bill ruppertParticipantI place a soul preacher compressor in front.
Sustains great.bill ruppertParticipantHi TK.
I think you mean XO series. The Nano is the real small box.
Yes there is a trim pot on the inside to increase gain which will give you increased sustain.
September 30, 2011 at 3:26 pm in reply to: Effectology episode #22 “Paranormal Guitar” by Bill Ruppert #116077bill ruppertParticipantSure it may sound a bit different but I would bet it would work fine if you set the controls the same.
BillQuote:Is there a way to do the poltergeist sound using the hog instead of the pog? Thanks!September 12, 2011 at 4:01 pm in reply to: Ed O’Brien and his amazing string sound (using EHX pedals perhaps?) #115995bill ruppertParticipantI do sounds like that using multi-tap delay.
It gives it the effect of strings bowing back and forth very quickly.

bill ruppertParticipantHi G
The pitch bend works just on the lead voice.
It works great with bass and will work fine with the coral as well.
BillQuote:Hi Bill, thanks for posting. Will the pitch bend work on the dry signal or just the lead? Also how well does the Ravish’s sympathetic sounds work with instruments other than guitar, like the low notes on a bass or something with richer harmonic content, like a coral sitar? Thanks!bill ruppertParticipantTobias
Thanks and thanks for watching!
BillQuote:Bill: I just found out about effectology and I’m floored by it. Keep up the fantastic work and expect a Q or two/Tobias
