Well i have actually tested the micro pog in several scenarios. I play it normally through a laney
acoustic amplifier, but i have also tried fenders, music man, and other brand names. I have also tried electric guitars with the unit, and the hiss is consistent among all of them.
thankYouBarra RockParticipantThanks. I bought the micro pog because i thought it would be terrific for turning my guitar into a bass with an acoustic group i’m playing with. Our sound is pretty clean; no drums or loud rock guitars.
So I hooked the pedal up but the others complained about the noise, which i must say is quite distracting when there isn’t distortion covering it up.I sent it for repair and they sent it back sounding exactly the same, initially telling me that it wasn’t “hissy” at all, which i considered crazy because i’ve owned lots of pedals and even the nastiest high gain stompbox i’ve played doesn’t hiss like that.
by the way, i really like your expression pedal idea,
it would let you blast in with octaves at perfect points…Have you tried DIYstompboxes forum?
Those guys are really creative…might gang up and help you make it happen.i bet you EHX will add it the next gen pog
Barra RockParticipantHi, I know this doesn’t concern your topic, but
does your micro pog make a loud hiss when you turn it on?
When I turn mine on, I hear the effect signal combined
with a loud high frequency hiss, or white noise.
It’s not louder than the effect but it’s certainly noticable. The EHX repair people tell me that this is normal. I just can’t believe it.
thanks.
Barra RockParticipantHave you tried each pedal on its own?
Perhaps just one is the culpritSeptember 12, 2010 at 10:07 pm in reply to: Please Listen to the short clip and tell me if my Micro Pog is supposed to sound like this! #111378Barra RockParticipantthank-You so far everyone for taking the time to listen to the clip and weigh in.
Explorer, The Micro Pog has two outs, an effect and a dry. When I plug in to the dry out, and engage the pedal there are no problems. It’s only through the effect out that I have trouble. The hiss begins when the pedal is switched on, and stays at a CONSISTENT VOLUME regardless of the level settings on the dry/sub-octave/octave up knobs.
The effects themselves appear to be functioning as they should; it is only this hissing that isn’t right.I live in Canada. My local music store doesn’t carry the unit, and the staff there haven’t sold them before. The nearest music store after that is in the next province – a four hour drive. Both stores are owned by the same chain. I could order a brand new unit to field test at the store, however i’d need to special order it and guarantee the purchase with a deposit.
I would like to get to a store that
has one, though it may take a while.thanks for the recording tip – I don’t know what to do since EHX continues to say that there is nothing wrong with my pedal. I bought it second hand. I certainly don’t remember the hiss being there. The effect stopped working an hour after I turned it on. I sent the pedal and a repair fee to EHX. I got it back and the noise was the first thing I noticed.
Why would all those demos on the internet not mention the fact that this hiss is normal? There is one demo in particular where a fellow is recommending that the Micro Pog makes a great bass if you’re doing recording demos. I just don’t see how i could use the pedal to simulate bass with that awful noise behind the effect.
I hope some EHX staff come across this post and can straighten it out.
September 10, 2010 at 4:07 pm in reply to: Can you fix that loud airy hiss that the Micro Pog makes when it is engaged? #111333Barra RockParticipantI actually sent the pedal back to them for re-repair after it arrived the first time.
I mentioned that since the repair, the pedal hisses. They said the hiss wasn’t out of the ordinary.
What can I do?Without a brand new pedal to test it against,
How can I continue to tell the manufacturer of the pedal that something is wrong?
It’s just that it’s loud enough to be a big distraction, and at $200+
if this is supposed to be normal functioning, I can’t say it would be worthwhile to spend for it.It doesn’t make sense. I have other EHX pedals, and they are just fine.
I posted recently on the technical questions/help forum; there’s a sound recording of the now famous (to me) hiss.September 7, 2010 at 10:42 pm in reply to: Can you fix that loud airy hiss that the Micro Pog makes when it is engaged? #111298Barra RockParticipantDo you use anything like noise suppression to get a handle on the hiss?
September 6, 2010 at 11:17 pm in reply to: Can you fix that loud airy hiss that the Micro Pog makes when it is engaged? #111287Barra RockParticipantMy Micro Pog produces the same hiss all by itself going into the amp.
I am certain this is not a guitar, amp, cables or power issue.
I went to a music store and tried it in their rigs, but the sound is still present, at a lower volume than the effect, but certainly noticeable.
I’ve read reviews about the original pog
claiming it was “noisy”.
What about the Micro Pog?I wish I knew what a proper functioning unit sounded like,
and the repair guys did say they sent me a new one,
but it hisses too. It was just hard to believe that the guys in the EHX design dept would think that
this amount of noise wouldn’t present a problem to people using the pedal. So that’s why i thought there must be something wrong with it.Yes, i was wondering too if the rocktron hush pedal would take care of the hissing.
thanks
September 4, 2010 at 12:04 am in reply to: Can you fix that loud airy hiss that the Micro Pog makes when it is engaged? #111243Barra RockParticipantby itself, using the power supply that comes with the micro pog.
the sound is consistent across numerous setups i’ve tried.airy hiss like a punctured tire.
EHX repair dept says its a normal ‘noise floor’
but i cant use it for recording or quieter live applications. They were kind enough to send me a new pedal but the new one makes the same sound.
can i eliminate it with a noise filter pedal like the rocktron?
September 2, 2010 at 3:48 pm in reply to: My Micro Pog was hissing loudly. EHX said they were sending me a brand new pedal but it makes the same hiss! #111212Barra RockParticipantThe repair department says that the hiss is a normal function of the pedal.
and all the online demos i’ve watched don’t sound hissy because the microphones dont
have the ability to pick up the high frequency of the hiss. How can i play quiet passages, or record with this pedal when i have to deal with this consistent hiss?
What about a noise supressor or something like the rocktron hush?
thanks

Appreciate the testimonials.
I’ll definitely secure those wires before the muff is hired.June 4, 2010 at 3:25 am in reply to: Does EHX make a gate type pedal that can completely cut off a signal if it surpasses a certain volume threshold? #107103Barra RockParticipantOkay, that’s interesting. Although after reading the description I’m not sure how this pedal could be set to cut off my guitar signal once the volume reached a particular loudness. The ideal here is a pedal that essentially mutes itself when there is a predetermined volume spike. Can I pull this off with the FX390B?
Thank You

Not much about the FX35B coming up online right now about it…I will have to search harderI’m not necessarily looking for an EHX effect to do this, but do they have a pedal that would do what I need?
