    Grim,

Did you build these from scratch? It looks like you just assembled the parts. If you cut out those bodies and painted them then you should start your own company man. I have assembled a couple guitars from parts but have never tried it from scratch. I like the tele though! Did you run into issues with stuff fitting and lining up correctly (neck joint, pickguards, bridges, etc)?

I took a Behringer Strat and completely removed all parts but the body. I sanded down the top and back to where it was just black around the sides then painted it with transparent green and a wood finish. When I reassembled it I came to the realization the Behringer body was smaller than a strat body so getting the new neck, pickguard, and bridge to fit were a royal pain in the arse. I call it the Crapocaster now. It has a penny wedged between the neck and the body to make the neck straight enough to play lol! It’s funny when you tear apart a shitty guitar how awful the craftsmanship is even on such simple things as cutting the holes for the neck correctly!

I’ll take that Tone Wicker BMP off your hands! I have been wanting one… The issue with questions like this is you can’t ask others opinions! It’s all subjective and the tone and sound you want are something you have to figure out, no one can tell you what’s better or worse because we all have differeing views and hear sound waves differently. Our individual perceptions also influence the sound of those waves ;)

Let me preface this with I love EHX. I have thier pedals all over my boards and always will but…

The Memory Toy is all over the place. The QA on this one device is the most rediculous nonsense I have ever seen. Some people’s oscillate, some don’t. Some oscillate at 50%, some at other increments. Some don’t even work. Some the mod effect is crazy some not. They are really hit and miss. People will say “there are trims that can fix it” and you know what yeah there are and I have used them. The problem is it doesn’t fix the issue these things are rolling down the production line with no real sense of consistency and it is still going on!

I love my Memory Toy but it does not oscillate, at all. It sounds beautiful though and I have another pedal that oscillates so no biggy for me. Here is the issue with adjusting the trim though, I can get mine to self oscillate but by the time the trim is up barely enough to actually send it into never ending oscillation then all of my repeats are distorted and pretty much useless. It’s a pedal that will piss you off to no end, you just have to expect this A) it’s cheap B) it has no quality control and you don’t know what you will get but this is likely due to point A C) can it be beat for what it does in the price range? Taking those three things into account you just have to understand you get what you pay for and to me after adjusting a little it’s an amazing little delay with a small footprint for little $. /Rant over

I asked that because the Dano Vibe isn’t that practical for live use due to the “ramp up” and volume increase (although I think this is normal for most lamp vibes).

It is true bypass. That is not normal by any means for the Toy. I would exchange it for another or maybe pop open the pedal and make sure the two boards are connected (seems to be a common problem). You can search and probably find an answer to this somewhere!

I would say maybe the Wiggler? Though I have never used it. I kind of dig the vibe on the Worm even though it’s subtle. Is this for live or a studio? The Danelectro Cool Cat Vibe is one of the warmest best sounding Vibes I have ever heard but it takes a second to “ramp up”.

Muff’n idea from my previous experience:

I hate the power supplies on the tube pedals (I have the Hot Tubes and the Muff’n). So I decided to hardwire the psu to the pedal and OMG! There is hole in the bottom of the pedal you can run the cord out of and it is really simple plus it seems way more stable. I used to get this “crackling static” sound sometimes with the Muff’n and it’s pure as gold now. I would encourage any of you who use your Muff’n regularly and plan on keeping it to do this.

Definitely a grounding problem. Make sure the wire that connects to the screw of the case hasn’t broken off or anything! Also in my experience the Russian Muffs can be a never ending hassle but are well worth it for their sound. Also people probably won’t be thinking “Why don’t you get another one?” because you know these pedals have been discontinued(you can obviously still get them but it may not be that way soon). Take some pics of the inside if you can, the board/wires/etc and maybe we can help you out some more. I have fixed two of these and modded my other one so I have some good hands on experience with them. Where are you from? Maybe we could work something out where you could ship it to me or something to fix it for free (other than shipping costs). I don’t mind helping anyone out who is starving due to chasing something they love!

I pull off all the rubber feet (you can always stick them back on) but if you don’t want to remove them then you can put the velcro on the bottom of the feet. I just buy rolls of velcro and cut it to fit, you can get these rolls for less on eBay! I usually do one strip from top to bottom on nano pedals, if it’s a big pedal I might use two strips either horizontal or vertical on it.

I have to admit I don’t have a good impression of the MT whatsoever! I have read basically nothing but complaint after complaint about it….usually I would just ignore this kinda thing because people complain about nothing a lot but I’m starting to think there’s something to it and that it has an inherent design flaw….. it hasn’t been out long and I have read at least 30-40 complaints about it on various forums, all very similar. This is the first opposite complaint I’ve heard of though.

    Liberty,

I love my MT. At first I had issues because it didn’t oscillate but I have another delay that does that. I played with the trim settings and for a delay it is absolutely beautiful sounding. For it’s footprint and sound it will definitely stay on my board. I have to admit though, I do mod and normally work on pedals so that might give me an advantage in confidence when tweaking internals over the normal user that might make them shy away.

Its the first trim on the bottom left of the circuit board. Clockwise is less, CCW is more. Mark it before you turn it because too much can make it not work(it won’t damage it). There is also a trim in the top middle that messes with the mod depth or speed I can’t remember. Mine will only self oscillate when it is distorted, so I turned it down and it sounds beautiful just no oscillation. That’s a fine compromise for the beauty of its sound to me!

Thanks! I will try that. But does it reduce your volume a lot when you engage the pedal?

As far as I could tell it is strictly voltage to the ICs. It had no real effect on the volume.

Trim pot 1 affects the feedback. CCW is more, CW is less. Make sure and mark it before you mess with it as you can make it stop working quickly if you aren’t careful. Also there is a trim pot in the middle top of the board that affects depth of the Mod switch that is quite useful.

I don’t know if you would call it clean, it does add a bit of mid/fatness to the sound. If you use it before overdrive/distortion it will boost the gain into those, last in the chain will simply boost the volume.

in reply to: Tube pedals: light out means bad tube? #108566

I have a Hot Tubes and an English Muff’n. The Muff’n doesn’t light up at all but the HT does. As far as I know the LED are purely for effect and have no impact on the tubes. The tubes should actually glow themselves! Usually you can tell when a tube is out by a few simple tests (google it!). What issues are you having with the pedal? If it was the tubes the pedal would probably work but just sound like crap. If the pedal won’t power on or make any sound then it could be something else.
