I take back number 2. I think you could record the regular vocal and the harmonies separately. You would just have to record the singing either in bypass or the blend all the way counter clockwise, then you could record with the blend fully clockwise so you could have your clean vocal track and then a harmony track! Just thought about it.

Pretty crazy for $40. I only watched the fist couple minutes but enjoyed the kind of spacey majestic sound that thing has. Good luck with it!

    1) I always record my vocal tracks separate from instrumentation, so I’m fearful about getting either the guitar and/or keyboard leaking in the mic. Of course I record my vocals using headphones as the sound output. Will that be sufficient?

    2) How will I be able to separate the various sounds to multiple tracks, or is this impossible? I’m thinking, will my voice and harmonies plus the instrument used (guitar or keyboard) all end up on one single track? If so it would be a mixing nightmare.

    3) Can I send the voice signal and the instrument signal to different channel in my mixer/console?

    1. Not a problem. Like the earlier post said, you don’t have to have the instrument output plugged in.

    2. Your voice and harmonies (or whatever effects) cannot be seperated, but the instrument vs. mic signal can be.

    3. You can have Mic in then out to mixer and instrument in then out to a separate channel (this will have to be mono 1/4″ though). You have one XLR in and XLR out, and one 1/4″ in and out so yeah.

    There you have it.

I have two Russian Big Muff’s and let me tell you, they are the most finicky pedals I have ever owned. I bought the first one from a pawn store and the volume only worked between 11 and 2 o’clock so it wasn’t loud enough to use but I loved the sound. So I bought a new one to rewire the old one! I rewired it and they both worked fine. Then I did the Green mod and Tone switch mod to the new one and now it’s volume is all weird (only works from 6 to 12 but it seems to encompass the whole range of volume so it gets plenty loud, it sounds especially cool. Regardless I have had to constantly tinker with these pedals to keep them working. The wires they use are very thin and cheap so jostling could easily break off a wire. Also if you took the feet off then you lose the ground as it’s connected to one of the feet so you can’t do this! Open it up and have a look, take some pics, and then maybe we can get you in the right direction.

If my ears can’t tell whether a signal is TB or not, I generally don’t worry about it

It’s not the signal, I just like being able for it to pass through with the power off. I have a pretty crazy setup and don’t always like having everything turned on.

To the other post: I’m 95% sure mine doesn’t pass the signal. I’ll make a vid for you soon to show… Also I kind of feel like the voice box is a wreck as is, most of the stuff is unusable. When I do the harmonies and sing along i can play whatever and it doesn’t sound like it alters the tones at all a lot of the time. I just use it for the vocoder and reverb for now. Your post totally confused me too.

Are saying when you vocode if you aren’t singing you still hear the guitar? Unless I am singing along to my playing I hear nothing. Also are you saying to put the instrument path into an effects loop or something like that? That seems like a good idea. So put my mic into one of the regular channels and then send the FX out to the pedal and back to the mixer and then just run the fx on my guitar channel when I want to use it…something like that?

I have done both of these mods. Monte Allum’s has the Vintage Dynacomp mod which is absolutely amazing (www.monteallums.com). You can find the TS one on ebay, if you want I can email you the instructions/schematics for both mods when I get off work this afternoon. What model TS do you have?

I got a Boss Compressor for Christmas and sold it two days later. I honestly thought it was an effect I would never use. Then I started jamming with my cousin (he’s an old school blues/rock guy who’s in his mid-50s and has been playing since he was 6) and the only thing he uses is a distortion and a compressor. His tone is amazing and he provides me with lots of sound advice so I listened to all his talk about compressors but still wasn’t sold. Then I was modding some of his pedals and I did the vintage mod on his Dynacomp and wow. I started playing my strat on the 4th position (out of phase neck-bridge) and I really dug the sound. So I played around with it more and kind of liked it. So then I was online and saw the Rocktron Big Crush for $20 and was like how can I pass that up. I like it a lot and use it almost all the time now. The two things I love about it are it just makes your playing sound smoother and your dynamics are more noticeable but the biggest thing is harmonic feedback!!! It seems like now with my compressor and distortion dialed right I can get that beautiful singing distortion/feedback that I was seeking (this is what my cousin was always talking about). Many people think you have to blast volume/gain and stand near an amp to get but with a compressor and distortion dialed in, it’s easy to obtain at bedroom levels. Compressors are mostly used in country and funk, so it’s all personal preference but I have enjoyed mine.

I would say get a God-Lyke over the one spot. It has more mA (or at least mine does) and let me tell you I have two pedal boards daisy chained together with over 20 pedals and perfect power with no noise. It really is that awesome!

what would you say is better the Stereo Electric Mistress or the polychorus ?
i only want simple flange n chorus but dont want to get the small clone

    thanks

I really have no say as I don’t have the SEM or the Polychorus. I do have the Small Clone and it is my favorite Chorus by far. I don’t really use Flange.

    My wants:

    Riddle Q-balls (don’t we all?)
    Wiggler
    Tube-EQ
    Flanger Hoax
    Muff’n
    LPB-2ube
    Tube Zipper
    Black Finger
    HOG

So uhm yeah.. I’ve got to go get three extra jobs!

Wow with all those tube pedals that is going to be one noisy rig!!!

I think the Micro Synth will by my next purchase for now :) I’m quite satisfied with my set up for once, except I have too many pedals and I need to simplify.

On the Memory Man, you can just turn down the Delay and turn up the Vibrato/Chorus.

I use the Rocktron Big Crush (because I got a great deal on it) but I modded my cousin’s dynacomp to Monte Allum’s Vintage Mod (about $25) and I loved it and he said it sounded just like the one he had in the 70s now.

A note on noise, I think a lot of people don’t understand compressors. They usually are not noisy it’s the other pedals in your chain! When the compressor evens out signals it brings up the noise in all your other pedals to a more audible volume and makes it exponentially worse. Experimentation can cure this!

Just wondering what order I should put these pedals in. Ibanez TS-9, Big Muff Pi, Boss Digital Delay, Q Tron +, LPB-1, Boss Compression, Dunlop Crybaby

Everyone has a different opinion lol! The beauty of effect order.

    I’d go:

    Q Tron > Compressor > TS-9 > Wah > Muff > Delay > LPB-1

The reason why I put the wah where I do is so I have have pre or post overdriven wah. I use the LPB-1 on the end as a pure boost to add a touch of mids.

Also your TS-9 needs the 4558 chip in it or one similar. It’s not really a Tube Screamer till you do that. I’d also throw the Boss Compressor away or mod it. A vintage modded Dynacomp sounds way sweeter! Good luck, and remember it’s all in what YOU want and want YOUR tone to be! Google chain effect order or something similar to find a plethora of ideas.
