I am glad that EHX readers and others read my post, and ironically, Vintage Guitar was the last
“print” magazine I have kept subscribing too, this year alone I dropped two, one that I could read
in about 20 minutes or less and their format has been so stale, stagnant and unchanged I should have dumped GP awhile ago (our local library due to $ cuts does not carry it any longer so I did subscribe and even for just > $1.00 its not worth it, I subscribed to Premier Guitar when it was under another Title and Trent Saltzer was the Publisher/Editor 9and prior to that it was a one or two state magazine, But can d-load it for free (the gear, especially Guitars and amps cost so much
its absurd, I like the history aspect of Vintage Guitar but it too may go as each magazine has its web site it seems plus each manufacturer .. I think I will start reading books again , its great with a public library a few doors down,
peace to all and Happy Holidays and Looking forward to Winter NAMM 2012 and EHX , I dig the Ravish Sitar, maybe down the road (I am looking at the dual expression pedal designed by Mission Engineering for Pigtronix (? I have a M-Audio Black Box Expression Pedal with a 1/4 line in to device and two 1/4 lines to A/B presets (? if made/bought a A/B A&B would that be similiar to what Mission En]gineering’s Dual pedal is doing (sort of?) and they are 14.99 on M-Audio’s website and have been for > 2 years or so..
NOS in box (Expression Pedal Board) not bad..

I checked out the A/I You noted and had a few ?’s, do You use a PC or a Mac (and which OS and DAW(s)
I was wondering as it is USB “Bus” powered” do You ever have issues with drop out or USB power issues
I have a 2010 (summer model) Imac and the USB 2.0 ports are supposed to put out 5v 500ma
but apparently they don’t always do that and without a AC or DC adapter that concerns me
Its USB 2.0 which is good and can get a powered USB 2.0 Hub if issues (depends on the Units manual)
though Apple support recommends using powered USB 2.0 Hubs with Audio Interfaces (that drop out , and
are bus or USB 2.0 does not make sense for sure that in 2011 that is what is Apple’s
recommendations (and other A/I manufacturer’s and multiple forums (Unrelated to each other) with USB
2.0 (not with Firewire though, or yet) I bought and returned a FW A/I as it
was
far more complex than I needed (the DSP mixing etc) I want to get audio in and audio out , not run a
Electric Ladyland like set up out of my extra room (would be cool though, though a few million dollars
short +) This seems like a nice unit, will get the manual and check Mac specs for OSX 10.6.4+ now OSX
10.6.7 , One Mic and One High Z would be good, I do wish it had two XLR mics in , oh well
and buying a Apogee Mike ($? ) for XLR to USB x2 would = a A/I and Apogee Jam $99.00 x1
or x2 =$200.00 so thats absurd and Blue Microphones Icicle $59.00 XLR-USB 2.0 to use my existing
Shure SM57’s and a SM58 ???? should not be this hard, I looked at mixers with USB 2.0 connections 24bit , a ART Dual Tube Preamp (new 2011 for $147.00 and $12.00 power supply USB 2.0 but
its 16 bit and even Garageband is 24 bit now (the ART is advertised as a Mic Pre and a A/I
2 combo XLR/I1/4 Hi Z , 2 1/4 monitor outs, 2 1/4 inserts SP/DIF out and headphone out
with opticaLl compression and NO DRIVERS /? should I rule it out as a 16 bit as G-band is 24 bit (but MP3 and ? CD ‘s are 16 bit ? or one of the two is ?
It shows hope as does=from Winter Namm11
the Akai EIE $199.99 due ? June 2011 ? with 4 combo XLR/Inst/Line ins, USB 2.0, Ext power, 4 1/4 out
41/4 inserts and 3 USB 2.0 hubs on the rear and two VU meters front and no drivers required NICE
I did see a Cakewalk UA-FX reduced $140.00 to $99.00 ?? will check and keep looking and asking ?
re ART, Analong Mixers with USB 2.0 to Computer and AC or DC adapter plus the Akai EIE
they all have ext power capability, I like the unit You mentioned, concern=Ext power or lack of
based on Apple…same with the Cakewalk Unit (sounds too good at $99.00….
I did a deep web search on my prior Tascam Us-122 and OSX 10.5 and OSX 10.6 and will try some non
dangerous recommendations and see if it works, or ? get our eMacs from the Basement and use the
Tascam US-122 and GB V2 ha sorry for the lomg post and spelling
? Summer Namm 2010 (or announced before hmmm…) a re-issue of the Freedom Amp (pine natural finish (to go with the 22 Caliber Amp (Battery and AC) their is a online form of battery operated guitar amps (seriously) :poke: , * You can still pull that one up (at least recently) at Amazon.com , I would like a EHX expression pedal with their Karma and name on it for the increasing and current effects that have a expression pedal input (why let the other companies who also sell effects +) make that profit?
drum machine interesting based on posts ,or small synth or a sampler or Kaoss type unit …
small, not very expensive, fit in pocket, like the 22 Caliber amp? EHX can pull it off and get more
awards ! Just like the Cathedral Reverb did for them (as well as Manufacturer of the Year plus Product of The Year Have a Cigar Mr. Matthews! and staff.

re:
For me, yes I like the RT better. I can get all the sounds out of the RT that I got out of the FA but the new one is more versatile. Be aware, the FA has a really great sound, I mean really great. I think it has something to do with the analog design but I think it may have more to do with it being a higher voltage pedal. Like, it just has massive headroom. But it was limited in terms of control, and I’m on a big expression pedal kick, while also trying to limit my overall number of pedals. So for convenience I replaced 3 pedals with this one, and the ring modulator is really close in overall “claaang” to the FA with 10x more control.
Super Review and follow up post on the RT and also on Your Expression Pedal “kick or “big kick” :rawk:
Glad to hear that the Boss EV-5 has worked out well and bummer on the Yamaha and Behringer FCV 100 Expression Pedals, I too am still looking for “The” Expression Pedal” that will be built well, and useful in most if not all Effect Units with a Expression Pedal Input (such as various EHX pedals, Boss (Line 6 Expression pedal (alone) only works with the $249.00 effect units (and I have a (bean style) PODXT (which has been discontinued per all except one large online gear dealer yet zip on the issue on Line6.com (The PODXT Live has been lowered $100.00 at most sites and the Bass PodXT Live has also been showing up as discontinued ) yet the Pod 2.0 and its floor unit is no change in status nor the PodX3 (? something cooking for Summer NAMM 2010 but Line 6 follows its own beat as far as product releases) Getting back to expression pedals for a (bean) PodXT
You need to get their expression pedal small board (that also has presets) for $99.9 and not the EX-1 for
?29.99 or $39.99 , I have a desk top model of a Vox Tonelab and they recommend a Valvetronix expression pedal/system (which I can not even locate) ? maybe a Midi based unit with dual pedals (or single) and presets (Roland makes one ($$ ) and Behringer less $$ , and surely there must be others)
I may go with the Boss Unit if I do buy one ( I like the Stereo one or perhaps I am thinking of The Ernie Ball models) M-Audio’s pedal (expression for guitar) I have read here works well with EHX pedals (and I have a M-Audio Black Box with the floorboard (one expression pedal) with cable and 1/4 jack and two presets with each having a separate cable with a 1/4 jack perhaps I should give that unit a try (the floorboard) as a expression pedal ( I bought the Black box at deep discount and it included the floor board which is built like a tank (compared to the Black Box)
* Any one ever tried that (Black Box Pedal Board for non M-Audio Products ? * (I perhaps should have made a separate post about that topic and perhaps expression pedals in general as well rather then getting off topic of your great review (which has garnered my interest in the RT !)
Thank You for your great review and my apologies for getting Your Post /Review off Track
I have only seen pictures of The Freedom Amp and only the word “Red Devil” I did see a picture of a Freedom Amplifier with Tolex and 40 D cell batteries out on a table (I did not count them but it mentioned 40 were required) I was surfing on the net for Electro Harmonix and Freedom Amplifier
and the wood cased (blond wood) unit came up on Amazon.com as out of stock and unknown if they would be getting any in (that was last night) I took a quick look today and found one for sale
(The wooden cased one blond pine wood cabinet /housing ) at
(I thought it might be a outdated post but the website read 4/19/2010

Features Pre Amp Out, rechargeable battery, and a handcrafted pine cabinet. Super low hum and the Pre Amp Out make the Freedom Amp great for recording.
The Best Street amp in the world!
Comes with recharger. There are only 70 of these made right now so they are RARE!!!!
IN STOCK…Order NOW!!!
Musictoyz.com Price $229.95
(shipping is $7.95 – it’s an amp)
I am not a E-H expert by any means is that true that only 70 were made
if so that price is not bad , unless I am unaware of something
as most battery operated (or rechargeable) Roland’s Cube Series, Line 6 small amps
(not sure they are battery operated, Crate Taxi and Limo Amps are more costly
and don’t have the EH pedigree
Thought I would put it up here in case someone was looking for one , I am not in the $$ market
to pursue it
Take Care

P.S. I think that a reissue of The Freedom Amp (wether the Pine cased one or the high watt 55 watt one or Guitar, Bass or PA or just try one (guitar or bass would be a great place to start)
and if pricing could be kept down and profits still made Bingo ..
What do You Think Mr.Mathews ?
I think it looks like another home run for EH , I guess I was behind and saw it in a ProGuitars.com email newsletter and was thrilled to see what (to me) was missing in the Memory Boy , NAMM should be a successful one for Mr.Mathews and crew . Is having a SMMH and a Deluxe Memory Boy at the same time to much ? I had decided on buying the Cathedral Reverb but wanted to wait for Namm 2010 in January (just to drive myself crazy I guess) Hopefully I can afford both the Cathedral Reverb and then add the Deluxe Memory Boy (and keep the SMMH its so cool) I agree with EH being named Manufacturer of the Year
!! price points are fair, multiple models based on budegts and needs/desires and Made In The U.S.A.!
and unlike so many one trick pony effect pedals (IMO) EH always has that extra feature or two or three in there for sonic exploration. Happy New Years EH and the people that use their products and on the forum(s)
That is a excellent idea to a/b the two units (Boss Slicer SL-20 (which is my only Boss Effect
unit)
and the E-H SMMWH (which is my only E-H unit *as of now) no other gear that I have )other than Apple’s
Loop making software) has a looper function (Seymour Duncan Shape Shifter (I won that online on his
web site) and the majority is ( got caught upin the modeling craze though with a Atomic Reactor the
units really excell) a Line 6 Podxt , Vox Tonelab, Roger Linn Adrennalin II (now a version III after
buying the chip kit update well worth $99.00 + shipping) and a Korg Pandora PX3 (my first “modeling”
unit, still have it and its a nice practice tool) a small Korg Toneworks (bought on closeout then they lowered the price again and I got more $ off , its not bad but I truly think a “looper”
without other effects with it will be a great creative tool and the 2880 does sound very good on the many videos I watched. I do think Boss products (some more than others sound sterile )
The Slicer is a really weird piece of gear (perhaps a EQ on line would help it) but combining it
really is when it comes alive (to me) Danolectro’s (don’t laugh) Fish and Chips EQ is really inexpensive and highly rated, though I should look at others, I read a EQ comparison (some where)
and The Dano came out a editors pick (sounds like a Guitar Player Magazine Term) I subscribe to premier Guitar and Vintage Guitar-though letting VG run out, it has not changed its format and I swear they have been re-running old articles as new) maybe I am crazy but I think its true
I have been lucky winning stuff on line a Schecter Tempest Custom (special edition 1 of 7 from Spin Magazine’s 20th anniversary contest (it has a custom paint job including Spin 20 it plays fine as I always thought Schecters were shredder guitars , with dual HB and coil tap its a great player
I won a trumpet&case;(sold it on e-bay), and most recently a full HP PC computer system (HP tower, 22″ Viewsonic Monitor and a HP 4in 4 Iwi-fi capable printer, very lucky on that one , our son has it
as he wanted to get a PC for college (and we have three Mac’s) I would love to win a Imac!
I won other stuff (box’s of GHS strings, I have lost count but I will soon be changing my e-mail as spam has become a nightmare (I get > 400 e-mails (on a light day!) drives me bats , tried every filter I could and setting, I will not enter any more contests (though my goal (though delusional) was to win a car (I did enter win Dale Jr.s 2010 Camaro SS that would be incredible! but highly unlikely
I will try your recommendation out , but I may have bought the 2880 as well !
Thanks for your reply, you have been very, very helpful! (to a E-H newbie forum member)
P.S (I post music , though nothing new for some time on http://www.macjams.com under dwwave
(its a free site but to search for me I do believe you have to sign up (free) up to you
some people say some of my guitar work sounds like The Durutti (? spelling) Column (who I had no idea was its
Vinnie Reilly) I checked out the band /Vinnie Reilly on You Tube and I do not hear/see it
though several people say he is their biggest influence (John Friscainte (RHCP), and the guy from
The Coctaeu (? spelling) Twins (now with … something Indiana (I think its a shade of Purple )
I will check that out..
later
Thanks for your posts and multitude of information on the 2880 looper as well as the foot switch
and thanks freshchops for the link to MF and the discount info , I have compared and read just about
everything I can find and I keep coming back to the EH 2880 and I do think the foot switch is needed
as it will help keep my hands on the guitar rather then on the looper unit. As far as the Akai
HeadrushE2 it has interesting features but to me its more delay based with a nice looper function
maybe as a down the road delay unit, who knows, I think though that in my mind the EH 2880 Super
Looper and foot switch is the way to go. it will clear my gear funds just about down to (not much
$ left after) but you need good equipment to sound good and making good sounding loops ) or better
than “good” sounding loops is my desire, I will sleep on it (and talk to someone as well) but I have not bought any gear since last summer (the E-H SMMWH and fall 08 Boss Slicer (but got laid up with major left knee surgery (was supposed to be a arthroscopic procedure with one meniscus repair and clean up some arthritis but both meniscus were torn, a chondroplasty(? spelling) to shave down rough edges and two ‘micro-fracture procedures were done as well (the Dr basically (due to severe loss of any absorbing material in the knee ) used a surgical awl and poked 10-12 holes on each side of the left knee cap area and the bleeding creates a “super clot” that becomes fibrous tissue. little to say that two days on crutch’s turned to 8 weeks of bed rest in a ankle to thigh brace and leg elevated and ice and physical therapy 3x a week as a outpatient(riding in the back seat of the car with no seat belts side ways across the back seat (crazy times) than back home in bed or in a wheelchair with leg extensions to elevate the leg, crutch’s were vary hard as I have endured 3 spine surgeries. Then due to continued, relentless pain I received 3 injections of Supartz (a artificial lubricant) in to my left knee and that has helped (they were done a week apart in April and May in 09 and my knee is finally settled down (injured by hyper-extension (ouch) in June of 08) * if a Dr. ever recommends a Micro-fracture procedure on your knee *RUN*(if you can or just don’t go back. get a second opinion, its a very controversial procedure and while I am not a pro athlete in any way or form it has ruined many athletes careers after having one (Greg Odem from Ohio State and NBA, Former Cleveland Browns Tight end (recent trade to Tampa Bay and several other high profile mostly basketball players
But getting back on track, interesting that freshchops mentioned a Tascam 4 Track Porta Studio
I have a Tascam (cassette) Porta Studio 2) and that has a very nice configuration (still have it)
I am sold on the 2880 Looper! Will let you know when I make a purchase!
