That’s good to know. It looks like fun. I hope to pick one of these up soon.

Hi metalfury. As you mentioned most Little Big Muffs have their pots arranged volume – tone – sustain. However, the first few thousand Little Big Muffs that EHX made in 2006 had their pots arranged sustain – tone – volume. Like you I recently picked up an older STV Little Big Muff.

I’ve noted a few differences between the two. The STV version has considerably more sustain, and gets much louder as you turn the volume pot up. The STV version is also much bassier. To be honest I’m happy to have both versions to mess around with. I really like the voicing on the newer VTS version, it’s got a tighter low end.

They’re both cool, neither one is better, it all comes down to personal preference.

That green Muff OD is intruiging, alright. It seems that one popped up before, last August:

I do wonder if it’s a new revision of some kind. Any change that makes it closer to the old Muff Fuzz from the ’70s would be most welcome.

volume drops when you turn on the overdrive do i have a problem or is this normal

Nope, that’s not normal, the overdrive side should be pretty loud. I know first hand that the build quality on the Germanium 4 Big Muffs can be a bit iffy. I had to take mine back to the shop where I bought it to get it replaced; you may have to do the same.

Mine is similarly noisy (but maybe not as bad as yours sounds!)

It is pretty much unusable with the Wicker on or the Tone off – and only just bearable as a ‘standard’ Muff (I know muffs have a certain amount of noise, so I can live with that).

To be honest, the Tone/Wicker are pretty much redundant so I kind of wish I’d just got a regular ‘Little Big Muff’.

In fact, I’m thinking of swapping it for a ‘Bass Big Muff’ and trying that instead.

Sorry, this isn’t much of an answer – but I feel your pain!

Thanks for your reply, TenSecondTed. What you’re describing really is the same problem that I’m having. If this kind of noise is normal for the BMw/TW I think I might sell or swap it. Regardless of the noise issue I’m not wild about the pedal’s tone, and the jump in volume that occurs when the tone stack is bypassed is just too much. So if the noise problem is normal, I can sell this on guilt free. Thanks again.

This is a good answer dude, I’ve read a lot about it, but I didn’t noticed nothing about why some people uses the nano one and other people uses the big one.

The nano double muff is smaller and can be powered by a normal Boss-style adaptor. That makes it handier for pedalboards than the larger version. The big box version just looks a lot cooler than the nano. Also, I think the larger version is more suitable for modding; many people like to replace that sliding switch for the ‘single/double’ settings with a footswitch. Which one you want really depends on your own requirements.

I’ve got both the nano and big box versions, actually. The ‘single’ setting on the double muff is basically my favourite overdrive sound. Having tried them both side-by-side I’ll admit that I can hear a difference between them, but it’s fairly minimal. I don’t think one sounds better than the other, to be honest, just subtly different. If I didn’t playing them side I probably wouldn’t have noticed any difference at all.
