I just bought a Heartke amp and a Behringer cab. I want to upgrade from the stock tube thinking that it will give it a little more of a punch but I don’t really know how to buy new tubes. I don’t know what to get. I’m looking for a high gain sound so I can really set off those pinch harmonics while keeping a warm bluesy sound. If ANYONE can give me some suggestion of what they may be using or what would be best for the sound that I want? By the way, The Little Big Muff rox-my-sox!!
One of the nice thing’s about your Hartke Bass Amp Head is that it only needs 1 Pre-Amp Tube. You will need a 12AX7 Tung-Sol Pre Amp Tube. This is the highest gain of all the pre-amp tubes. This will definitely “Fry up” your signal so you can get the maximum gain you are looking for.
It’s a Hartke GT100 guitar amp head, so it’s not any sort of bass model, but that model tube would still work right?
When I hear Hartke, I think of bass amps. They make pretty cool guitar heads too. I use a Hartke Bass Cab with my Genz Benz, which has 1- 12AX7…..Still the same type of tube and spec that will work for your situation.
