I’m confused about the relative features and merits of each of these products. Can someone spell it out?
Thanks
August 30, 2010 at 1:52 pm #111157philzxyzMemberHello? Specifically what I want to know is:
Max delay and no. of repeats – do these differ between models?
What does the “Toy” lack that makes in worthy of that label?August 31, 2010 at 3:47 pm #111175CryabetesParticipantDeluxe Memory Man – uses multiple BBDs, 550ms of delay time. Designed by Howard Davis.
http://www.effectsdatabase.com/model/eh/memoryman/deluxeStereo Memory Man – 300ms of delay [via BBDs], with In and Out of phase outputs
http://www.effectsdatabase.com/model/eh/memoryman/stereoMemory Man – ???
http://www.effectsdatabase.com/model/eh/memorymanStereo Memory Man with Hazarai – digital delay pedal with looping/reverse capabilities, up to 3000ms of delay, 16 second [?] looper
http://www.effectsdatabase.com/model/eh/xo/memoryman/hazaraiMemory Boy – 550ms of delay [via BBDs], expression pedal input, tweakable LFO [chorus/vibrato]
http://www.effectsdatabase.com/model/eh/xo/memoryboyDeluxe Memory Boy – same as above, but with tap tempo, effects loop [for delays only], very tweakable LFO
http://www.effectsdatabase.com/model/eh/xo/memoryboy/deluxeMemory Toy – same as memory boy, but with no expression pedal input, and only two preset values for the LFO. Some have a loose connector for the circuit boards, but it is easily popped into place/fixed. also don’t touch the trim pots.
http://www.effectsdatabase.com/model/eh/nano/memorytoynumber of repeats will differ based on your input signal’s strength- likewise oscillation. this is the case for every delay pedal except multi-head tape echos with NO feedback knob.

EDIT: is the actual mechanism of the delay circuitry the same in all the products? ie for equivalent settings on a simple delay do these sound the same?
If EHX support is reading: product feature comparison tables would be nice somewhere on your site to summarize this type of information for products in a series like this.
August 31, 2010 at 6:54 pm #111184CryabetesParticipantmost analog delays are pretty simple, yeah- the circuitry is a compander and the delay IC. equivalent settings might not all be the same (depends on how the delay chip is biased [?]) but you should be able to get similar sounds from each (well, the LFO section of each is pretty different so take that into consideration, but the delay-ness of them is pretty uniform).
anyone else feel free to jump in if i’m making a mistake with any of my statements.

The tonal quality of the Boys and the Toy are equivalent, there might be a hair of a difference but they all basically sound the same. The DMM has a different sound to it.MODULATION
The modulation on the Toy is similar to the DMM but with far less control: the Toy modulates at one fixed frequency which is the same as Chorus mode on the DMM and though the depth is adjustable with a tiny trim pot on the inside of the unit, you can’t adjust the depth once you put the bottom cover back on. The Boys modulation is totally different and more out there with a decent amount of control. The DXMB has the most modulation control because it allows you to adjust both Rate and Depth, the MB allows you to adjust depth and there is a rate switch to choose between three different rates. The DMM allows full adjustment over depth and there is a switch to choose between two different rates: CHORUS and VIBRATO.BBD CHIPS
The BBD chips in the DMM are superior as compared to the BBD chips in the Boys and Toy but the DMM chips are also obsolete.REPEATS
All of the analog delays have been designed to runaway when FEEDBACK is maxed but sometimes it doesn’t happen; usually because the pedal’s calibration has gone south at some point. -
