    Hey guys. I was wondering if anyone could tell me which of these Muffs is the meanest?

    * Triangle Version
    * Ram’s Head Version
    * Violet Ram’s Head Version
    * Late 70’s (3rd) Version
    * Green Russian Reissue Version
    * Black Russian Reissue Version
    * GGG Tuned Version

    I bought a kit from General Guitar Gadgets and it comes with these options. I thought it would be fun to try to build my own. What I would like is something heavy and incoherent. Not muddy, but just mean. I don’t even know if that makes sense. My only experience is with the new Muffs, which I love. I don’t know if I have posted here before. I always seem to find the answer I am looking for before I can post about. There is a lot of great info and people here and you have all helped me make some good decisions in gear. Any help with this would be great.

    i would have to say the violt rams head big muff. althouht there are not very many made i have one and there very snarly. and mine looks a lot nicer than the pic mine is mint

    Very cool. I thought it would come between the Rams Head and the Triangle. Man, I would love to get my hands on an actual vintage Muff someday. I keep getting hit with little things that steel the funds from my “Vintage Fund.” I usually see them floating around in the $400-500 range. Oh well. The clone will have to do until then.

    So I am leaning towards the Violet Rams Head now, since it was the only response. Please keep the responses coming, so that I can hear about the others before I make my final decision which way to go.

    10uF input cap ramshead version for sure…its way thicker than any other ramshead or triangle muff!

    I know it’s not on the list, but the Metal Muff XO (not Nano) IS the “meanest” Muff. That thing is basically high end nasal black metal in a box….

    I’ll say Ram’s head too….the triangle has loads of gain and fizz but not much snarl or bite.

    I think I will make it the Rams Head. Anyone ever built one of these kits before? Or compared one to the real thing?

    Metal muffs aren’t big muffs! Nor are muff fuzz’s or Muff overdrives.

    I built one from spare parts I had lying around and it sounds exactly like a couple of ramsheads I’ve used.
    The 10uF input cap version is the best version to build IMO! its thicker than the other versions, you’ll have to refer to the schematic to find out which version it is if you’re using GGG.

    Depends on what you mean by ‘mean’ though. I really love the Rams Head, but it doesn’t seem mean to me. The 1st issue Russian is quite in your face, so’s the EH3034 — the Mudhoney muff.
