Hey I’ve listened to the demos and been seduced by all of these (3 are EHX and 1 is a DANO). Anyone here used several of these and able to give me feedback on pros and cons?
I currently have a DANO back talk reverse tape delay, Boss looper and EHX holiest grail which all handle some sort of delay/feedback/loop, but am considering a 16 second delay, deluxe memory man, memory man w/ hazarai and a danelectro reel echo….
anyone played several of these/know what to recommend. the thing i like about the 16 second is sound on sound looping with forward and reverse phrases, but can is get analog, self oscillating and warbling goodness like a deluxe mem man or reel echo? the DMM looks sweet cuz of the chorus/vibr….cmon! i need your help!
thanks!
April 4, 2009 at 3:18 am #95226Fender&EHX4everModeratorI have the 16sec DD, the Stereo Memory Man with Haz, and the Deluxe Memory Man. They all have their strengths, and are different beasts not only in features, but in tone as well.
The best bang for your buck would probably be the Stereo Memory Man with Haz. I would try that one first. It also does sound on sound looping. In fact, you can use the delay on it while looping simultaneously. Amazing box!

Though you can’t go wrong with the SMMH. It’s awesome. It has a little bit of everything. Echo, Delay, Looping, Reverb, Modulation, Reverse Delay.

April 4, 2009 at 11:21 am #95235nightravenMemberthe deluxe memory man is the best out of those if you just want organic delay without all the ‘bells and whistles’
the dano reel echo is shitApril 4, 2009 at 11:36 am #95236BlueSteelParticipantI heard that the smmh is really good

1. It has a click track that allows you to time your loops to measures, rather than just seconds. It gives you a 4 beat count-in before the looping begins so you can anticipate the tempo.
2. The internal clock can be synced by MIDI to a drum machine
3. It has magna storage, which means that you can save a recording in the device even after powering down.
4. The modulation section has control over both rate and depth. You can get chorus, flange, rotary, and pitch bending warble.
5. You have the option to record a loop for a set # of measures, and when the measure is completed, you can keep playing and it will automatically start dubbing over the part you just played for the first loop. You can keep layering into infinity.
6. If you have the foot controller (which is very hard to find, but the HOG foot controller also works with it), you can turn the modulation off/on during the performance. The modulation does not record into the loop.If you decide to go with the 16sec DD, ask first if the “4 beat count-inl” mod has already been done to the unit. EHX will do this mod for you for an additional $30 +/-, but the later models already have it added. It allows you to record a loop without the 4 beat count-in, like the SMMH, by setting the Course slider at maximum.
Also, be very careful with the sliders. They are fragile. This is one of the drawbacks of EHX pedals that use sliders instead of knobs.
April 4, 2009 at 3:11 pm #95238Fender&EHX4everModeratorAs for the Deluxe Memory Man, I own 3 of them. It’s the most classic delay sound ever, and rivals the Big Muff Pi as Electro-Harmonix’s most popular pedal (at least at HCFX). You can’t go wrong with it.

damn sounds cool, but pretty much the same as my boss looper. those modulations to tracks sounds like an awesome feature…i’ll prob go with the DMM. thanks for all your input
April 4, 2009 at 3:54 pm #95241mattcaseyMemberwow, haven’t seen this video before though, SMMH looks damn cool
