hi, i have a 3 pdt true bypass switch, and i was wondering exactly how it works. when the switch clicks, does it change hi or lo, or is it when the switch is held down it becomes hi, and when it is released it is lo. thank you for your help,
noah
You’re describing the difference between latching (the former) and momentary (the latter.) I’d assume it’s a latching switch. Most pedal bypasses use latching switches (except boss type pedals and old danelectros.) Momentary is for stuff like the tap tempo/record switch on the SMMH.
3PDT’s have a little metal rocker inside that switches back and forth, always in contact with the middle lug on either pole.
A 3PDT is simply 3 SPDT switches in a row, each independent of one another.
Click it one way and the top lugs touch the middle lugs, switch it the other and the bottom lugs touch the middle lugs.
To see this for yourself get a digital multi meter.
