In the UK we have BBC Radio6 music, which is excellent…there’s a good mix of quality music on there.

Folks in other parts of the world can listen online.

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/6music/

it’s the best station in the UK, and you can hear stuff like Radiohead, Pixies etc along with Reggae, Soul etc.

there’s some great people on there.

Don Letts has his own show on a Saturday (reggae and punk etc)

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/6music/shows/don_letts/

and Bruce Dickinson (of Iron Maiden) hosts the friday rock show (new and old rock/metal)

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/6music/shows/bruce_dickinson/

and Steve Lamacq’s show is where you hear all the new and up and coming indie/alternative bands

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/6music/shows/steve_lamacq/

…but there are many many more shows worth listening to.

I’d recommend Stuart Maconie’s Freak Zone for Scott!! it’s 2 1/2 hours of the weirdest freakiest records ever made!!

um, I feel kinda lucky actually I think radio over here is pretty decent.

iTunes radio is cool sometimes. Then there’s Bee.fm (it’s only in Russian, I think) – you just download a playlist of an artist and listen to his random songs. Thanks to bee.fm, I found out about Paracoccidioidomicosisproctitissarcomucosis :)

And I want to check out the BBC Radio Freak Zone now…

You listened to the stuff I posted yet, melx?

    Ok, George….let me see.

Tom Waits is great….he’s actually quite a recent discovery for me, I have friends that have been banging on about him for years but I didn’t really appreciate him until a year or so ago….but I will have to listen to more of his albums, I only have ‘Real Gone’

lol, that ‘man man’ is flippin nuts!! I kind of like it though, reminds me a little of the dresden dolls crossed with blood brothers….or something wierd like that!

OMG…Earth! lol, no not a fan at all, I have a song of there’s on an old sub/pop VHS called “Ouroboros is broken’ it’s the most god awful thing on the video, but there is a woman riding a horse topless in the video which makes it almost watchable…..but saying all this I quite like the track you posted so maybe I should check out more? The video I have is 1993, so maybe I should check out some later stuff, what do you think/recommend??

I’ve never heard that ozzy/primus thing, cheers!! I do quite like primus though….and porno for pyro’s, janes addiction… never been a chilli peppers fan though.

Haggard….lol, well 10/10 for something I’ve never heard before!! I can’t really see myself listening to this if i’m honest.

….I just listened to it all the way through, I was quite digging it until the ‘satan’ voice, I wasn’t digging that at all, but a nice contrast to the ladies voice all the same…I don’t like the double kick drums either!!!! LOL!

it was fun to hear some totally different stuff though, cheers!

Haha, 39 :) Do you have a big, manly beard? :)
Tom Waits is great, and there are very cool bootlegs of his live stuff – like the July 2008 in Atlanta, Georgia – it’s a two-something-hour set, and it sounds awesome. Just cannot recommend the man enough, even his very early stuff is nice-sounding.
And his first album (Closing Time) is the greatest thing to cure a hangover, lol :)

Man Man play what is called “Dark Cabaret”, so The Dresden Dolls, Tiger Lilies, Pretty Balanced all fit there. Actually, try to find Pretty Balanced – Icicle Bicycle, it’s a moody mixture of funny and more serious songs.

Dunno anything about Earth, I just have a few random songs (including the one I gave you the link to), all of which I found on YouTube.

    Primus sucks! :)

And Haggard sounds very cool sometimes – considering it’s not synths and keyboards, but real classical instruments.
I’ll check out your links and perhaps will post something more tomorrow. Thanks!

And as for Waits, I can’t say that I can distinguish my favourite record among his stuff – it’s just so varying. Mule Variations holds a special place, since it’s his first record I heard.

lol, what do you mean ‘haha 39!’ respect your elders!! ;) nah, I don’t really have a beard but I am pretty slack with shaving though so sometimes I have a bit of a beard going on although it’s not something I intentionally grow!!!

…..I’m gonna ring round my mates tonight and get myself some more Waits to listen to this weekend.

Yeah, well, having EHX stuff is already a reason to be respected, at least in the musicians community – so you for sure get my respect. And for being twice and half older than me you get even more respect :)
I’m always in awe of the Might-Ol’-Chris-Barnes-Beard-and-Hair: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:ChrisBarnesWOA2006.jpg
Speaking of which, Cannibal Corpses “Tomb Of The Mutilated” is one of the funniest albums ever made – super-uber-scooped tones, subsonic grunts and double-kicks faster than a mosquitos wings :)

    cannibal corpse!!

I can remeber people walking around with their t-shirts on back in the day though.

lol, talking of which check out this video, it’s pretty stupid but you might find it slightly amusing for about 30 seconds.

I have that video downloaded to my laptop and actually watch it from time to time! :)
I’ve got a lot of respect for the technicality and the vocals, despite the music itself being barely amusing and listenable. :)

And still, despite all the gory lyrics and grunts of CC, Meshuggah are zillions of times heavier.
