I know that pedal order can be pretty subjective depending on what sound you want, but there seems to be some general consensus on a “normal” set up in most of the stuff I’ve been reading. For instance Tuner pedals going first and Distortions being put before other effects in a chain. But I haven’t found anything on where to put a pedal like the Knockout that changes your tone like this pedal does.
My current set up is Guitar – Boss Chro. Tuner – Boss SD-1 OD – EHX Big Muff Pi – Boss DD-7 Delay – Boss Tremolo – Amp.
My initial thought was to put the Knockout 2nd after the Tuner and before the Distortions so the new tone from the Knockout would be getting distorted instead of being added to the Distortion if it was after it in the chain. This seems relatively logical but I really have no clue if its the right way of thinking. Also, I have read some stuff around the web suggesting that EQs go after Distortions, but the Knockout seems like a pretty unique pedal.
Anyway, I’ll stop ranting on now and say thank you in advance to anyone that takes the time to respond.

And that whole ‘EQs go after distortions!’ mindset is bunk. your ears are your number one tool.

October 5, 2011 at 12:55 am #116095TwistedHaloMemberI’ve messed around over the last couple of hours and the newly created tone from the knockout does seem to remain more true to itself when distorted when the knockout is before the distortion in the chain of effects.
One thing that I’m not sure about occurred when I turned the Dry knob completely counter-clockwise. When the knockout is before the distortion it produces a weird detuned (not really the correct word, but it was “off”) sound. This could be useful, but I’m not sure if that is the intended factory effect, which is really what I’m asking about here.
Neat pedal so far, but I’m really just getting my feet wet with it.
