I’m in several groups. I do some electronica, with lots of phsycadelic, analog stuff, which usually takes the form of a bluesy synth solo over a trance rhythm part. I can’t tell you what it sounds like, because it came about completely by accident and not design. I’m also in a jam band. We do a lot of Pink Floyd type stuff, with some Police and Black Sabbath thrown in for good measure.

I like the idea of combining Pink Floyd with Black Sabbath, that sounds cool. do you guys have any recordings?

Warning: despite awesome influences, we are crap. We don’t have any recordings at the moment, but I’ll se what we can do.

i’m in a band that’s mostly rhythm n blues/soul/jazz type band, but i generally try not to think of what i’m doing as being categorized by a few genres – i think as soon as you start saying for example “we play both kinds, country and western!”, subconsciously you can end up limiting yourself to the typical aspects of that genre. It’s good to see so few people who have actually been specific about the ‘genres’ they play.

in short, my answer to the question this thread asks: i have absolutely no idea 😆

I play in a band called Amen The Animal . . . .Kind of a new wave of rock music. Along the lines of Rock/ Prog/ and pop all in one. We use mostly electro harmonix effects. Almost any delay you hear comes from the memory man deluxe! Check it out though . . .www.myspace.com/amentheanimal. I use a gibson les paul vintage mahogany and a dual rec (1991 handwired!) and oragne 4×12. We did the top two recordings on the myspace ourselves. I also have a Hiwatt lead 50 but i dont like to take it on the road. How bout you guys?

Hey tubezipper and Julian, I like your stuff a lot. tubezipper, just curious, what guitar and amp do you use? I liked your clean tone in the first track…

    Here’s my band: http://www.myspace.com/littlecityfires
We’re only high schoolers so be nice with your criticisms, haha. Honestly though, I’d like to have your feedback, especially on the track 2003: A Space Oddysey. I have a solo on that on which I used a Stereo Electric Mistress.

Tell me what you guys think!

    Alkis :)

    Thanks!

I like your band’s songs Hey Michael! and 2003 the best. The guitar and bass parts are pretty cool, especially the noisy and surfy stuff. There Stereo Electric Mistress part is that crazy part at the end right? I really dug that.

Keep it up! Just remember to never stop writing and never stop exploring music.

Thanks! I appreciate the feedback and advice. Yes, that breakdown at the end was the Mistress. I love that pedal!! Great for adding a psychedelic edge to solos, and with feedback, it makes the most crazy R2D2 noises.

That’s pretty interesting… I find an LPB-1 can sometimes sweeten up a clean tone pretty nicely, but I need it for a solo boost, so I don’t use it as such.

I play mostly Red Hot Chili Peppers music. But I play a lot of other types of rock also. And sometimes jazz.

all sorts of guitar based music really, loosely grouped under the ‘alternative rock/punk/indie’ banner I suppose.

my most recent recorded stuff in in my sig, but I play a lot of punkier/grungier stuff too.

I happen to play alone (‘cos all we’ve got in Russia is screamo/emo/uber-death-shred) bands…. And it’s kind of a mix between psychedelic rock, ZZ-Top-style hard rock, avantgarde, hair metal and post-rock.
    Sounds weird but cool :)
And it gives an excuse when I need to buy a pedal. :)

sounds excellent…I’m doing everything on my own at the moment, I like the freedom you get from it.

I actually have about 6 and a half hours of music recorded by me and my friend, it was about two years ago, and it sounds terrible…. Guys from the Laney thread on UG might remember :)
But actually, buying a hybrid amp and a big muff made me totally rethink what I want to play: before, it was brutal nu-metal, now, it’s become strange bluesy stuff. Ah well :)

Some people describe it as psychedelic blues ( what’s that?), progressive jazz or heavy trance. Whenever asked the question I basically have no idea what to say. Influences? Thelonious Monk, Cecil Taylor, John Coltrane, John Lee Hooker, Lightnin’ Hopkins, Indian Raga, Mahler and Arabic music, with a strong touch of Celtic in there somewhere.

Well, I have been recording lonesome for close to five years now. It’s called Lo-Fi, I suppose, even though I try my best for a hi-fi sound: http://www.myspace.com/wchurchkill

I also play in a drone band, which I quite like, and an instrument-swapping, blues-heavy ‘drinking band.’ After it gets too late to play loud, each member is given seven minutes to write a song start to finish and perform it with an acoustic guitar. Seriously, everyone should do this – some of the best and worst songs we’ve ever written have come as a result of that process, and it gives you an immediate framework with which to expand upon should you so decide. “Spilled Milk” on the Churchkill page got its start there, plus a dozen others that I either haven’t totally figured out where to go with or just haven’t gotten around to recording.

My band mostly plays covers, indie, rock and guitar pop, stuff that keeps the folks drinking and dancing down at the pub. Our own songs fit the same mold, we’re in the process of mixing a short demo.
