I have a NANO Memory Toy. From what I”ve read it requires
a 9 voltDC, tip negative, 200ma power supply.I’ve tried it out with several different adaptors that I have
that fit those specifications (at least 200ma and some of them are 300ma
and 500ma and the unit lights up but
does not work. It works fine with batteries but I’m wondering
what I might be missing in terms of getting the proper power supply.I went to Musicians Friend to look at the relevant power supplies
but the one that is posted (Electro-Harmonix US96DC-200BI 9VDC Guitar Effects Power Supply)
only has 100ma.Can you all help?
I have an important show coming up and I’d love to get this puppy
working in my rigJuly 14, 2010 at 3:16 am #110194janusEffectModeratorThe mA rating isn’t really the issue in this case, since the Memory Toy can run on batteries and doesn’t use much current. 100mA or more should provide more than enough current for the Memory Boy’s needs.
The type of adapter used is no different than what Boss pedals and most other pedals use. Regulated 9VDC, 2.1mm barrel (if it fits, you’re probably using the right one), center negative. Most EHX XO and Nano series pedals use that type of adapter, too.
So… if the adapters you tried work on other pedals with the same basic requirements, then something’s wrong with the jack on your Memory Toy. Either that, or the first adapter you used was the wrong type and you damaged the pedal.
That 500mA adapter you mentioned sends up a red flag for me, though, because that’s not an amount you normally see on these adapters, and I’m wondering if there’s something about it that would make it unusable for most pedals. Tell me more about the adapters you used, but more importantly, what you normally use those adapters for.
July 14, 2010 at 3:47 am #110195looppoolMemberHi, thanks for the quick reply.
I used a brand new Boss PSA 120 (and I”m an experienced professional musician
so I know all about using correct voltage/amperage/polarity, etc. when
powering pedals. That didn’t work and then I tried the One Spot that is the equivalent to the
Boss. I made sure that it was 9 volts, more than 200ma with a polarity of
tip-negative (like most stomp boxes these days) and I never used any other
AC adaptor.I also should tell you that I had fits with the pedal when I first bought it:
I returned it in non-working
order (and under warranty) and they sent it back still not working (with batteries or AC adaptor)
so I sent it back and pleaded with them to send me a brand new pedal. This took four months of prodding on my part. They finally sent me a pedal in a brand
new box but I have no idea whether they actually put a new pedal into it or not
(it was in perfect condition as I never used it out, once)Now, batteries make it work but these adaptors do not (it lights up and passes
unaffected sound but the effect doesn’t occur).I’m really frustrated because I really do love the effect when it works.
What’s your thought, now?
November 10, 2011 at 11:23 am #116305kristMemberI had the same problem, but my memory toy works with 7,5v 300 mA tip negative power supply
November 10, 2011 at 5:15 pm #116310ShoegazingMemberI’m having the same problem with my Memory Toy pedal. I’ve just ordered an EHX 9.6v AC/DC adaptor, so if that doesn’t work then there’s definitely something wrong with the pedal!
November 11, 2011 at 5:06 am #116318Mr.GrimMembersounds like the same problem i had been having with my Nano Bassballs and another fellow with his Pocket Metal Muff from another topic.
units will work on batteries, and even in a daisy chained power supply, but not on its own dedicated power supply?!?!
and i too have used many proper power supply’s to test, and ….nothing.
OH….FLICK! Sum thing is going on here!
November 11, 2011 at 1:45 pm #116320CryabetesParticipantthink it’s a certain factory again, like that POG2 fiasco last year?
November 11, 2011 at 6:31 pm #116321ShoegazingMemberJust realised how old the original post was. Anyway, it’s obviously a problem that’s affected a multitude of EHX pedals. Not really what I expected from such a respected name. As this is my first EHX pedal, I’ll obviously be thinking twice before purchasing any of their products in the future. Damn shame as they’re one of the most innovative pedal companies around.
February 24, 2012 at 11:58 pm #117023mauropinMemberWow! And I thought I was doing something wrong, but seems to me that it’s a general problem with these pedals!
I also have a EHX Memory Toy, and as looppool posted before, it doesn’t work on an AC/DC adapter. The adapter I’m using is a 9Vdc, 250mA, and works pretty well with my BOSS Distortion pedal. But with the EHX Memory Toy, it just turns on the LED, but the effects keep dead. The guitar still plays, the sound goes well, but if I turn up the ‘blend’ control while with the adapter, the sound goes down. No effects at all.
The Memory Toy works fine with batteries, but as it is a pain in the ass to put batteries on it, I hoped I could use the adapter — with no results! The adapter is new, I just bought it for this…I’m using it on the BOSS pedal just because it didn’t work on the Memory Toy.
It was said here that it could be “something’s wrong with the jack on your Memory Toy”. But seems to me that is a major malfunction on most of the pedals, as many folks here seems to have the same problem!
No one from Electro Harmonix care to respond to us here?
The Admin answered before, but seems to me that he doesn’t have a clue on what’s wrong. I’m almost certain that the pedals are coming out of the factory with this malfunction.
Such a disappointment with this brand. I sure won’t recommend it to anyone.

Any thoughts?
February 27, 2012 at 2:08 pm #117033CryabetesParticipantcurrent fluctuates; similar adapters used to be listed as “10vDC” adapters in the early 90s. the 9.6v will work for 9v and vice versa.
March 31, 2012 at 12:55 am #117245mauropinMemberFor the record: I finally bought an Electro Harmonix power supply, and it did the trick. Being outside US made it a little harder to get it, but I finally got it.
I can’t imagine why, but my EHX Memory toy only works with the Electro-Harmonix US96DC-200BI power supply, or with 9v batteries. As I wrote here before, the regular 9V power supply I use with my BOSS pedals had no effect on my EHX pedal.
So, if you have the same problem, I suggest you try the EHX power supply. Yeah, it sucks that the pedals won’t work with other adapters. But if you don’t want to depend on 9v batteries, the EHX power supply seems to be the only option available.
