The English Muff’n sounds super lush with these two:

i use a fender tc-90(with two p-90s) through a fender super six reverb(with six blue label cts speakers). it sounds pretty crunchy, heavy, and big. it’s not one of my favorites, though it still hangs around on my board.

I use mine with an American Deluxe Strat and a dual humbucker tele that I built. Amp-wise, I use it into the clean channel of my mesa lonestar special. I have to say that when it comes to tweaking the English Muffn, you have to careful to not use your eyes. The controls are kind of indirect since they are cascading. I learned a thing or two about that with my Mesa (which also features cascading controls). The Mesa has a very high fidelity clean sound so I get to hear a lot of the detail from the pedal that I wasn’t hearing from the Marshall that I had before it. The English Muffn was a pretty decent crunch/boost pedal for the marshall, but it really is an “amp-in-a-box” with my LSS. Its like having a third channel with a flavor somewhere between a Plexi and a JCM800 (which I find is the best of what Marshall has ever offered, but that’s just my opinion). The tone is better than that of my Marshall (JCM2000 tsl) so I’m definitely glad I have it. I have to keep the gain below noon and the level between 11 and 2, otherwise its a mess. This pedal dishes out some serious sound. It has to be controlled judiciously.

On the other hand, I also use this pedal with my Boss Gt8 as a boost when plugged direct for recording. It definitely helps with maintaining dynamics in my high gain sounds. I should point out though that my settings for each application are WILDLY different. My modeller settings sound brittle and harsh through my amp, and my amp settings sound muddy and and compressed on my modeller.

I think you guys will find that when using this pedal, the better the clean channel is the better the sound of the pedal. Also, I think it would be very helpful to know the signal chain inside the pedal. My thought is that it goes from the gain knob to the bass, then mid, then treble because the treble seems to be the most sensitive control and because higher gain settings result in a more pronounced effect in the tone stack in general. For example, I never use the treble above 9 oclock but I keep the mids quite high. Also, I find that the volume control has a much stronger effect than the gain. I my reasoning correct?
