hi all-
i have an EH voicebox and it works great for recording, but when i try to use it in a live setting, (my band is on the louder side, but nothing too extreme) it picks up way too much of the stage sound.
i end up getting vocoder drums and bass coming through the pa.
i have the “mic gain” on low and i’m using just a standard vocal shure sm58.
i was wondering if anyone else is having this problem and what solutions they’ve come up with.
is the answer to use a mic with a tigher cartoid pattern like a sm58 beta?
or something that is proximity sensitive like like a harmonica mic?
or simply to get a gate of some kind?
(although i am worried then just a wall of vocoder would come in once you triggered the gate).
mics are usually not returnable and it’s almost impossible to re-create that “live volume” experimenting even when the music shop has a little try-out room.
i was hoping maybe someone with a more extensive mic arsenal than myself might have come up with something, or EH staff would have a recommendation…
any ideas? besides the obvious “play quieter”.
thanks

-mThose sound like good ideas.
I can’t say I’m very knowledgeable about mics though.
