Hi there,
I’ve just bought a vintage polyflange from the 80’s.
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=110423175963&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT
I was wondering if anyone could tell me anything about this pedal like what year it’s from, how it’s comparable to a vintage polychorus and if I paid an alright price for it,
Many thanks in advance,
Tim.August 18, 2009 at 7:02 pm #100681Fender&EHX4everModeratorThat’s a pretty fair price. They are very rare, even moreso than the EchoFlanger versions from what I’ve seen over the last 2 years on eBay, though they are essentially the same circuit.
Here’s a thread I started about mine with some more info: http://acapella.harmony-central.com/showthread.php?t=1908028

So is it essentially the same pedal as the vintage polychorus albeit with some sublte nuances? I’ve read somewhere that there’s a little difference in the parts used, still I can’t wait to get my hands on this, the RI Polychorus is a great pedal but I was disappointed there was no vibrato.
Thanks again,

Tim.Yep, i’m pretty sure it’s the same pedal as the vintage PolyChorus. During that period of EHX, they were always changing up the paintjobs, using different colored circuit boards, different versions of the same components with the same values, different knobs, etc. But the circuits are the same. The main difference is in the BBDs used, and I’m pretty sure that the EchoFlanger, the PolyFlange, and the vintage PolyChorus all used the Reticon SAD1024 BBD.
Let us know how you like it.
Cheers, and enjoy!September 27, 2009 at 6:08 pm #101826vampyretimMemberI love the pedal!
It’s a shame that Kurt Cobain used it so much as Nirvana just leaps out at you as soon as you plug it in, I set it to Kurt’s hand written settings for Radio Freindly Unit Shifter just to see how similar it is to a vintage polychorus and I would say it sounded exactly the same the sound wobbled in exactly the same way.
I haven’t really had a chance to spend much time with this pedal yet but I know I love it!
Do you have a copy of the manual EHXfenderforever? what cool settings have you found with it and what distortion pedal do you use with yours? Many thanks,

Here’s the setting I use to get an early 80s Electric Mistress type chorus (think Police or Pink Floyd). The blend switch is on, btw.
Unfortunately, I do not have a copy of the manual. Also, I rarely ever use chorus or flanger with a distortion pedal. I’m more likely to overdrive a vintage amp for a bit of dirt. But I might use a fuzz pedal, like Big Muff Pi or a Fuzz Factory, along with a slower pitch-bending flange setting.

I liked your setting it’s very 80’s.
Have you tried the re-issue?
If so what do you think of it?January 11, 2010 at 1:49 am #106299Fender&EHX4everModeratorQuote:Wow yours is in great condition, how long have you had it?

I’ve only had mine a couple of years now. I purchased it used.
I have the reissue Stereo PolyChorus also. It sounds amazing in stereo – very rich and spacious. When used in mono, I think it sounds a bit different from the original – less balanced somehow.January 31, 2011 at 10:20 am #114066Andrew_m1ParticipantHi! I recently got Polyflange. It was true bypassed by previous owner, and he claims he didn’t make any other modifications. But there’s one thing that bothers me a bit – as you can see on a photo, I set feedback and rate pots on MAX, width and tune on MIN, and the mark on a pot doesn’t correspond to the marking on a housing. I was wondering, if your Polyflanges have the same kinda problem?? Previous owner says it’s cause EHX changed the paintjob and kinda missed such a little nuance, the previous device was Echoflange and maybe there is a difference, where the pots regulating circle starts and ends on that ( think it starts on 6 o’clock, on Poly flange – 7)??
The marking on the pots says mine is from 1980s era, still it sounds greatCheers, Andrew

February 2, 2011 at 4:14 pm #114105Andrew_m1ParticipantI looked inside, pots seem to be ok, they have the same marking as one on my Small Stone ver.2 from that era. Maybe they have been replaced, but it must have been made long time ago. I still think it is interconnected with changing the paintjob from previous model to this one. Theres a vintage DMM on a foto that has the starting and the ending regulating point of all pots exactly as my polyflange – although my polyflange has a 220v cord, maybe it was made for Europe??

But my Polyflange is configured for 50% at 12 o’clock. So maybe there are some earlier models where the circuit was laid out like the Echoflanger
…or maybe EHX already had a bunch of circuit boards built for the Echoflanger and installed them in the newer enclosure, or maybe a previous owner of your unit swapped out the enclosure.
