I read somewhere that David Cockerell designed the original 18v, and Howard Davis redesigned it to the 9v version. Can anyone verify if that is true?
December 11, 2008 at 4:08 pm #88952StephengilesMemberFunnily enough, the 9v version was based more on the Deluxe Electic Mistress circuit, using the LM324/LM311 LFO/clock.
December 11, 2008 at 4:28 pm #88953nightravenMemberquestion about the deluxe electric mistress (i thought this would be better than posting a new thread)
i’m really interested in getting one and putting the delay and blend trimpots on the surface of the pedal to use as real pots.
at the moment there’s a 70s DEM on ebay going for 100 euro (at this very minute it’s 132 usd), with a bit of scratches on the box and ‘the colour pot needs cleaning’. this also has the vintage knobs which i’m in love with and it’s from germany (which is right next door to me so there’ll be no extortionate tax+shipping AND it’ll work in my mains since it’s got the plug on it).
is this a good deal?
it’s cheaper than getting it new but how much are these old ones worth?thanks

December 11, 2008 at 5:51 pm #88974nightravenMemberd’you know if there’s any difference between the old and the new ones? are they like the DMMs where the new are better than the old?
(thanks by the way)
December 11, 2008 at 6:05 pm #88975julianModeratorI wouldn’t know
I think the old ones have the transformer built inDecember 11, 2008 at 6:21 pm #88976nightravenMemberyeah they do, luckily this one has the same voltage as my country’s.

I’m using an original EHX vintage power supply, and it says 20mA output. Not sure if that makes a big difference or not.

I have a 1979 era DMM that absolutely blows away all other DMMs I’ve tried, including the newest ones. The noise level is lower, the repeats are crisp, and the modulation is clear. And the preamp is better.
I also have a 1979 era DEM that still uses the Reticon chips, and it sounds great.
Vintage isn’t always better than new, but the reverse is also true with analog EHX stuff. Not sure why that is, but every unit seems to have its own personality – for better of for worse.
