Can this unit be used strictly as a vocal auto-tune unit for recording without plugging a guitar or other instrument into it? In other words, can it take the place of Antares Auto-tune or Melodyne?
If so, does it color the sound at all one way or the other?
Thanks.

Yes, you can use the v256 as autotune without other instruments. you can also decide if you wanna sound like a robot or almost clean vocal with the bands. Amount of bands decide how it colour your sound.
