I love the superego, but i’m starting to develop a healthy dose of hate for it too.
Anytime I turn it on, it injects an ultrasonic ring into my sound, somewhere above 15khz. Most people wouldnt notice, but i’m sensitive to it. Sounds like the ring from an old crt TV on mute in another room, or one of those anti deer or dog repellent noise machines.
It’s not really an issue if i’m using a more modern amp with a tone stack that has a LP filter below it, like pretty much any high-gain amp or modeler.
Unfortunately, with the amps I use, it rings through very clearly…with or without my playing over it. All of my old Sunn amps and fender reproduce that frequency clearly.
It’s not just isolated to the EHX superego. I’ve also been getting similar issues with the MXR carbon copy delay.
I’ve also had issues with power supply noise. I use two different voodoo power blocks to power all my pedals, and that’s plugged into multiple stages of power conditioning along with my amps…. so ground noise should not be an issue. If I unplug the power from the superego, every single one of my pedals run quieter. I get at least a 30% reduction in noise by just unplugging it. I have the same problem with the EHX pog2. Unplugging both the pog and superego from the power I get at least 60% reduction in noise from my board. If I have both the pog and superego plugged into the same block (although through isolated power outputs) I get a massive increase in noise, If i add an mxr 10-band eq into the mix, that creates enough noise to make my rig almost unplayable.
What’s going on here? how can I fix this?

My blues junior already has the expected amount of hum going on and this added noise is such a headache. Wasn’t sure if it was just me so I’m glad I saw your post! I tried powering it off a daisy chain and by itself with a boss psa adapter (same as the 9.6v power supply that comes with the superego). It seems like it’s going to produce that noise no matter what. I don’t have an isolated power supply around so I’m glad your post helped me to rule that out as a possible fix.

May 20, 2016 at 9:49 pm #121533EHX STAFFKeymasterDoes it work with the supply we shipped with the unit???
If so its your power supply.
If you want to use that supply you will need a isolator like the Diago Isolator or get a real isolated supply.Do a search for Diago Isolator with EHX Pitch Fork – Guitar Effects Pedal Power Supply Noise Eliminator on youtube.

I find the value a bit weak so I swapped it with a 200uF.
The units seams a bit more clean and silent.October 6, 2024 at 10:23 am #211271dblachaParticipantHi, I notice a bright, strong noise when I lift off the “bypass” switch when the decay is greater than 0. Is it normal?
