So, I’m trying to convince myself to buy a Tube Zipper. I heard the demo here https://www.ehx.com/forums/viewthread/56/
and I’ve heard some others, but I was wondering if it can do a fuzz/distortion for rhythm playing, in addition to the crazy filter stuff? If so, how does it sound?

It’s so crazy versatile, I think you can just about do anything your imagination can muster. When you set the Resonance and Sensitivity to lower levels, the Frequency knob acts a bit like an EQ.

The Distortion/Fuzz out of it is amazing. The tubes cook the signal up and it oozez tone.

…I had made up my mind to buy one last week, after hearing tube zipper’s demo. But then my GC didn’t have any in stock, so I figured I’d check in with you guys before I ordered one. These responses are really reminding me of why I ought to get one.

The Distortion/Fuzz is unique. You can have it stand alone and it sounds similar to a hot tube amp. Real Tube Distortion. Very Marshall – Mesa Boggie type of distortion in a small box. Kick in the other stuff and you are somewhere else. Only you can find your way home after the journey.
December 9, 2008 at 4:27 pm #88757To chime in with the others, the Tube Zipper has long been one of my personal favorites — it somehow always feels like a natural extension. Personally, I don’t use the self-oscillation much — one of my favorite settings was to make the filter a bit sensitive, and to then play a heavy rhythm through it so that it was always engaged, and then lighten up and play a muted rhythm so the filter could disengage. Sounded really cool. And yes, I like the distortion too.

December 9, 2008 at 5:26 pm #88761electro-melxModeratorScott, when did ‘envelope filter + Distortion’ change into ‘tube maze’ or vice/versa?

However there are some “Tube Maze” with old knobs. I saw one on ebay last week
