Hi there. Can anyone help me ? I am the owner of two HIFI amplifiers. They are Vincent SV236. One is from year 2002 (I guess that from the first numbers of the serial number) and the other is from year 2004.
I’m the first owner of the 2004 amplifier and it still works fine several hours a day during the 6 years I had it. But the other amp from 2002 causes me problems. Sometimes when the music is smooth and silky the tubes start to produce some dropout and noise in sound level : the music fades away.
I removed the two twin tubes from that amp, they are 89 5 6N4, which I believe are a kind of 12AX7.
I contacted a Vincent distributor in Germany which kindly tells to me :
“When your amplifier is older than 4-5 years then you have 1pcs 12AX7 into the front (for arrange the NF-Signal to the left and right channel tubes) and 2pcs 6DJ8 into the amplifier. When it is a new amplifier then you have 3pcs 12AX7”
After a little research I found that 6DJ8 tubes are 6-volt, and 12AX7 are 12-volt.
So I think the sound problems with that amp may come from there : wrong tubes for a Vincent SV236 from that year.So I want to put the right tubes in that amp. My question is : Are electro-harmonix 6922 Gold Pin (E88CC) suitable tubes for that amp ? I have read that 6DJ8 tubes are like E88CC so it might be, or not ?
I’m new to the tube world so any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Your post described exactly the issue I am having with my Vincent SV236 !!!… music fades away, drops out etc. I replaced the two rear tubes as I had two spare given to me when I bought the amp (second hand). I thought that did the trick as I did not hear any drop out/fade away of the music for a few hours of playing and over a number of days. However, that was a false dawn and the problem persisted – I am assuming I needed to change the front tube as well.
Anyhow, if you did get an answer to your query or found a solution I would really appreciate it. I think the tubes in the amp are the JJ’s so not the best.
Separately, if you or someone else has a view on this it would also be appreciated. My Vincent is paired up to PMC FB1i speakers (Marantz CD10 front end) and these speakers can handle bass very well. Overall quite a warm sound, but sometimes I actually find it a little too warm and wondered if there were tubes that were good to offset this a little – I would hate though to go the other way and loose the warmth completely.
Anyhow, and feedback really appreciated!
