So I am repairing an old triangle muff for a friend. He gave it to me and it didn’t work at all. I resoldered a few spots that didn’t look up to par and decided to replace the true bypass switch he had on there. I had a new replacement on hand. I wired it up and it works fine except that it pops when turned on and off. I also noticed a drop in signal upon switching. (I would play with it engaged then switch it to bypass and then it would seem to take a second before the full volume would kick in; it happens the same going from bypass to engaged as well.

I am thinking it could be a number of reasons…

    1. Cheap true bypass switch? I have heard someone say that before. I can’t remember where I bought it,
but I usually don’t get the cheap stuff (maybe I did).
    2. I wired the switch wrong
    3. The LED light has something to do with it (or my wiring of it)
    4. Thats the way she goes.

Any input would be helpful. It is a really awesome sounding pedal, I would really like to give it back to him in top shape.

I will try and get a photo posted.

Try replacing the output capacitor. Sounds like it’s leaky.

    Great Thanks Ron
Now which one is it? Where is it located on the board? and where would be a good source to buy a new one from? (comparable to the oem) Thanks for the input I’m still trying to learn so bear with me.

here are some photos of the project.

So im guessing that it is the purple colored (in photo) cap next to the volume on the right side of the board.

My next question is if it is a 0.1up is that the same as a .1 mf or .01 mf I’m not sure which to order.
btw: I was going to get a ceramic cap.
    Please advise.

Does yours have ceramic caps? Not all of them did.

Now I’m not sure which one is the output capacitor. Or how to figure it’s correct replacement. I am thinking it would be around the volume pots location. I’m guessing that it is the grey cylinder on the furthest left in photo 1. I’m hoping someone may be able to point it out in the photo. Thanks for your help.

Also there is no ground wire running to the enclosure of the pedal. Could this also be the problem with the popping noise?

Is there a way to test the value of the capacitors with a multimeter?

Thank you Ron, you are always helpful. I’m going to replace this cap and see what happens.
