Just scored a nice 70s triangle Big Muff.
something weird with the tone control though. Fully counterclockwise is high treble; rotating clockwise starts to back off on the top end. It all sounds fine and good until about 2/3 of the way round then sudden big volume drop-off and the blanket over the speaker tone sets in. I’m guessing something’s not right — I had one of these decades ago and don’t remember it behaving like that. Any ideas?

Could be nothing more than a difference in circuitry between this one and the one you remember.
Parts varied all over the place.
I always though that version tone control did operate backwards to all the other versions?!?!?!?!?!
I think the tone pot is just goosed. It’s non-original, so I’m going to replace it. Any idea what the spec should be?
100k linear?
Where to get one?
Any 100k Linear will do fine.
Can’t seem to start a new thread so i hope no one minds me posting this here:
I’ve bought a vintage v1 ‘triangle’ Big muff, 2nd edition 1972. Problem is, the tone control is barely effective, makes only minimal difference from one end of the dial to the other..the overall sound of the tone is far more towards ‘bassy’ than to treble.
Having said that, it is a great sound, but i suspect something is wrong. As it is, i am using it in conjunction with an OCD ,which can give me more treble options.
Does anyone have any ideas what might be wrong? Thanks
replace the electrolytics and the pot and report back…?
OK i’ve got the problem sorted..wasn’t the tone control but a solder had come loose..is right as rain now, thanks for the help
