Home › Forums › Help/Technical Questions › The Right Looper for Me??!?
Hey,
I’m looking to throw down some bucks on a new looper and I am feeling a bit overwhelmed. I am primarily an acoustic player who is now beginning to explore all the sound potential that comes with plugging in. I want to invest in the right looper but like I said – there is a lot of different stuff out there and to find the product that will work best for my sound seems difficult to find. The EH 2880 is one that I am interested in purchasing. I had a buddy who used to use that pedal and I loved all the weird sounds that he could get out of it. It would be great if someone could do a quick comparison between the 2880 and say the Boss RC 20XL. I know they offer different features… but why should I spend extra money on the 2880? I dig music like: Animal Collective, Grizzly Bear, Radiohead. I want something that will be able to allow me freedom to experiment but is also can do-sive in a live situation. I found the 2880 to be fairly difficult to get the hang of. A few drawbacks that I noticed that may make live sound difficult would be the whole pitch shifting tempo thing, what seems to me to be great for producing wierd sounds but would make replicating fairly difficult on stage. I would appreciate any input!
Thanks,
B
Very simply put:
The Boss Loopers have much more in the way of options by far (different loop lengths, assignable outputs, etc…), a MUCH less friendly user interface, and kind of crap sound quality.
The 2880 is fun, almost everything you’d need is right there in from of you, or on the foot-switch, the footswitch allows you to keep the main controls of the unit on a table top – close to you, the sound is amazing.
As well the Boomerang III looks like an amazing option, if they ever get it done….
DL4 is good, easy too.
I have a Digitech PSD8000, and it sounds great but I find it a PitA to use.
Got a lo-fi loop junky on the way too
There’s a 2880 or a 16s delay in my future for sure though
2880 or Boomerang 3.
If you take the time to learn midi with the 2880 you could program a bunch of cool stuff as well.
