So, the wonderful 2880 is discontinued, meaning no doubt that EHX has some new ideas to spring upon us! In the meantime I have been using the 2880 a fair bit as a 4 Track recording device….what is missing to make it really cool, of course, are the typical control logistics, Pause and above all Rewind and Fast Forward, not to mention Location, and maybe a dedicated Output for each Track, thus the name suggestion, The Quad.
The Quad, based on 2880-proven technology, would include looping, sync., recording, and, last but not least, a Locator, but, on the other hand, would not be over-sophisticated and remain as user-friendly as the SMMH and Ravish Sitar-type pedals. Ideas and suggestions welcome!April 10, 2012 at 8:06 pm #117302CryabetesParticipantan onboard sequencer would be awesome too, or a backup system a little more modern than CF cards. Maybe asynchronous loop capabilities or a multiplier system (aka, you take a loop, and specify “play four times – the total duration of four loops is the new “one loop” speed”) or tap tempo.

April 11, 2012 at 1:11 am #117306WatsonWoodMemberThat is certainly true! The 2880 can also be an awesome and strange echo machine, as it has proved to me on several occasions, most of which caught me by surprise in typical EHX fashion. Arpeggio, yes, very cool idea; foot controller, provided in the new no-moving-parts housing of the CT? The art would be to keep the Quad user interface as plain and simple as possible…and, no, I am not a MIDI freak, though MIDI control would open up a lot of possibilities.

The clicky DPDTs threw off my timing and went back to the far inferior Boss RC-20 lamenting what could have been.September 6, 2012 at 6:10 am #118115WatsonWoodMemberI get the point about the switches, there is some talk about this on another thread as well. All the same, the sound quality of the 2880 is so impressive that I am more than willing to get over the switch noise issue and I certainly would not go to a Boss Looper. I have tried several Boss models, excellent for the price but not up to the crystal-clear rendition of a 2880. I use mine for recording as well as live work.
September 6, 2012 at 7:50 pm #118119echobaseoneMemberIt’s more than just the click, it’s the actual action of the switch that causes this slight delay that I just couldn’t get over.
Now that I’ve done the soft latch switch changeout to my Freeze, I wish I hadn’t sold off my 2880. I could’ve switched out ALL the switches on the footpedal and been superhappy. I agree the Boss is nowhere near the fidelity of the 2880. Dammit.
I hope they come out with another looper soon.September 12, 2012 at 7:57 am #118139kev77MemberQuote:Soft switches on the foot controller!

September 12, 2012 at 2:57 pm #118140dibletMembermy list of improvements would include:
-standard-
1. optional loop sync between the four tracks: synced, asynchronous or multiplied (like the boomerang 3)
2. one button bounce/mix-down (then erasing/clearing the individual tracks)
3. one button delete for individual tracks-advanced-
4. ability to adjust/trim loop beginning and end points – effectively allowing one to record a longer passage and loop specific sections. (like the timefactor)-wish-
5. along with the capability in #4, it would be great to have the ability to locate/determine where the looped section is in the longer passage (the adjusting/trimming determines the looping length, the locate feature determines where that length is along the entire passage).September 23, 2012 at 9:29 am #118179kev77MemberIf ehx are going to present something looper ish soon, they’ll be up against the to flashback X4, which looks like
The shiz. Granted not the loopers loveboat of features, but so much going for it.September 23, 2012 at 8:53 pm #118188CryabetesParticipantsick of all these single loop/overdubs with undo loopers. make it a sixteen track looper with sequencer that’s fully midi-able.
September 26, 2012 at 9:59 am #118198kev77MemberWith
soft touch switches, synced LEDs.
Assignable expression functions like the DMMWTT
A global tap tempo to rule the whole thing,
The DMM ,s gain stage to make it honk.
Not fugly tone tattoo graphics and all in a Hammond DD sized box please,,,,September 27, 2012 at 6:27 am #118200atcatdubhParticipant
Hi,I lost my prior email/user name so starting with a “fresh account” I own a EHX The Freeze, Cathedral Reverb, SMMH, and a 2880 Looper with Foot Controls (registered, opened box but never used) as were any of these effects and a few other manufacture;s
(due to spinal surgery, followed by knee injury, a surgery that went well not well, followed by a 2nd knee surgery then (total 8 injections )As the 2880 Looper and Foot pedal have been discontinued sadly, my ? is hold on to it or sell now or wait a bit
The other EHX pedals were not inexpensive either but not at the cost of the 2880, and ideas of what a fair price would be
It would have to be listed used (though unused) both still packed in their boxes, in a smoke free home , Could use the funds as wellbut after doing so much research and posting here and getting nothing but + info on the unit I bought it 9without regrets too)
Thanks, Sorry if posted in a in correct area

atcatdubhJanuary 1, 2013 at 1:02 am #118590monocoastalMembermy wish list of additional features for a 2880 replacement would be:
four asynchronous loops (w/ the ability to bounce)
movable loop points (ala Timefactor)
SD card w/ storage for multiple sets of loops
soft switchesbonus points would be some kind of tape emulation like the strymon el capistan
thanks!!!
January 4, 2013 at 1:42 am #118614MattInVegasMemberI think I posted something about soft switches on another string, but since then I’ve gotten used to the 2880’s click switches. I started on the Boss 20XL, but I’ve never gone back — as far as playing at home. If I’m doing an acoustic gig and am keeping load-in light the 20XL is better and the soft switches don’t disturb the ambiance. Honestly don’t know if I’d want soft switches on the 2880 now.
It’s the last pedal you want to bring to a jam, but I’ve gotten real good at making a good loop that a drummer could follow. I started out by exaggerating the stomp motion while playing a downstroke at the same time. Once those two motions get synched it becomes natural. Not all that different from learning to sync a foot with hands in drums.
but I still would like a:
1: Replacement for the memory card
2: A cordless foot controller
3: A function that automatically snaps the speed of the track back to the original key if the tempo is alteredebay on gauging the value of the NIB 2880
