Now that I think about it, that’d be an amazing effect, because the ratio between the voices would be different at different points along the sweep.
Say you’ve got the +1 octave and +2 octave sliders up and you’re bending up from a 440A.
1 octave up is 880, 2 octaves up is 1760 hz.
So when you have the expression half-cocked, one voice would be at 660, which is close to an E. The other voice would be at C#.
So when you’d sweep up you’d sweep through a multitude or dissonant, consonant, and microtonal chords, and probably get some mean torn speaker type throbs in there too.
Yess!! Exactly the thing I was thinking of, it’d be like a squadron of jet planes flying through your speakers!
I kind of just want EH to make a Micro HOG- 4-5 sliders with a few different voices, and then all the expression modes. I think for the “freezer” having octave down would be a must for me.
Slight update for ghost regarding name suggestions:-
Freezers:
Nano: Ice Cube
XO: Freezer
CT: Big Chill
and
Drones:
Nano: Bee
XO: Drone
CT: Omega
and maybe it would be possible to integrate a virtual spliced tape loop selector, up to a few seconds, with a wavy Mellotron-type sound to follow smilindan’s idea on another topic thread.
so are they gonna listen to us or are we gonna have to ask someone else to make it?
BUMP FOR TEHZ ULTIMATZ JUSTICE!
i told my guitarist about it he wants a freezer and id love a drone
so thats two people.. i think we need to tell them the market for this… think about all the ps3/5 and whammy owners who thought WTF about the hog but couldnt justify it.. all these people would kill for a freezer
i dont think its unreasonable to suggest that both these pedals could be one ala the worm?
i wonder though, how much the cathedral has overlapped into this realm…
i know i bought the cathedral, not only because i needed a good sounding and flexible stereo reverb, but also because the freeze / infinite footswitch brought this functionality of the “freezer/drone” that i have been wanting in a pedal. after purchasing i found out that the pedal will do infinite repeats with the knobs cranked up too – which really opened up the possibilities being able to add to the drone through a peice…
so there are some great things about the cathedral:
infinite drone with with a held stomp or cranking of the reverb/feedback knobs
even up to a 2 second loop is possible (with the ability to overdub)
stereo imaging
lowpass (through the use of the tone knob)
wet/dry mix
_
*out of curiosity, what other functions would people want that the cathedral doesn’t have? what would differentiate the two?
i think im rooting for the “drone” here (a sample based freezer/drone pedal – not a synth tone, but rather your actual signal which i would feel would make a more sonically diverse/interesting pedal with the ability to use on other instruments/objects)
and i know i would add pitch shifting (chromatic steps like on the 2880, or even individual chromatic sliders with the ability to add or subtract voices from the drone would be amazing… -octave, -fifth, -third, +third, +fifth, +octave)
also an effects loop would make the “drone” pedal that much more sonically flexible (instead of trying to cram more effects/shaping into the unit itself) letting the owner pick and choose what they need to achieve the sound they are after
as far as the ‘freezer’ goes….you can already get these types of pedals (not buy ehx though )….i have a digital delay pedal that will hold your note/chord while you press the footswitch, and release it you take your foot off…and you can play over whatever note/chord is being held. its great and i use it all the time in my band, its like having keyboards or synth behind the guitar and really fills out the sound.

Well, ghost, it appears the Freeze is here! Not the “Freezer” perhaps, but still, who knows? An XO version may be coming down the road for us. I have not got my hands on one yet but I hope to do so in the near future……..and my congrats for starting the Freezer thread!
what about an extended version of the freeze like the SMMWH or the cathedral? with pitch, panning, filter,a few presets… most important thing to bring: stereo inputs and outputs.
