I just took delivery of my HOG a couple of days ago. I know by reputation that it should take me a while to become proficient when using the expression pedal, but putting it through its paces, I’ve noticed something troubling. In the “Freeze Gliss” mode, by using the Exp Button on the unit itself, I can get a note or chord to sustain indefinitely while I play over it. I can’t replicate this using the non-electro-harmonix expression pedal that came with the unit. I’ve tried turning the volume knob on the side of the pedal fully clockwise, fully counter-clockwise, and dead in the middle. Might I have a dud expression pedal?

I’ve tried volume knob full clockwise, full counter-clockwise, and middle with the switch flipped one way, and I’ve tried those three configurations with the switch flipped the other.

I also just received my HOG, and have had no problems. In the Octave Bend, Step Bend, and Filter modes, I can use the expression pedal to modulate the sound. In the Freeze Gliss mode, I can sustain a note or a chord by depressing the Exp Button located in the middle of the unit. Then, I can play additional notes or chords while the original still rings (just as the literature says I should). When I try to substitute the expression pedal for the Exp Button, nothing happens. I play a chord. Then as soon as I start playing the follow on chords, the original chord stops sounding.
August 18, 2010 at 6:44 pm #110947TheGhostMachinaMemberAre you keeping the expression pedal completely depressed (toe down) while you play over top? As soon as you bring the exp down from full (or capture sound position) your sustained chord will “gliss” to the next note/chord you’re playing. In freeze volume mode, you can control the volume of the captured sound with the expression. Of your other modes are behaving fine, I do not believe your expression pedal is faulty.
Hope that helps!

Thanks much. I’ll give it another shot tonight.

These are very handy, as I have a lot more settings then the 6 presets the controller gives me;) Did you get the controller with yours?

I’m pretty well convinced that there is something wrong with the pedal. When I use the Exp Button on the HOG, I can get a long, clear, sustained note or chord to play over. I’ve explored all configurations of the expression pedal (toe all the way up to toe all the way down, volume extreme clockwise to extreme counter, and bottom toggle each way), and I can’t get anything out of Freeze Gliss.
Thanks for the help. Musician’s Friend has a pretty goo exchange policy, so I’ll just send it back, and hope that a new pedal will resolve the issue.
