    There was some other horrid stuff done to it, it just made me sad. That said, I’d still rock it. Even the most abused guitars need love.

    I hate when people mess whith guitars like that.

    it also makes me very sad everytime i see a guitar get smashed. :(

    I tend to disagree with guitar smashing. There’s never a reason to need to smash it. If you’re tired of it, don’t like it, or its failed you in someway and you don’t want to keep it, why not give it to a kid? Some kids can’t afford to buy a guitar, or even get anything decent. Think of the Karma of passing on the gift of music.

    I would like to disagree with it, but unfortunatly seeing Pete Townsend smashing guitars is probably the single most powerful and exciting thing I’ve ever seen anyone do on a stage….that’s good enough reason for me….there’s a little montage towards the end of ‘the kids are alright’ where they’ve cut together Pete smashing about 20 guitars, I know it’s effecting me at a very base level of my emotion spectrum, but I can’t deny it’s totally absorbing and thrilling to watch and hear.

    I disagree with you. I saw an interview with john frusciante from back around the mother’s milk tour and he was talking about how he smashed his $1000 strat because he was angry with anthony. If you paid that much money for it, why just smash it to pieces if you could use it to make music? Especially if its a vintage guitar.

    I know, I hate those pricks that feel the need to wipe their guitar down every time they play it. If you play a guitar often and outside of your house, then it will get dirty, dinged, chipped,and scratched. Personaly I like the look of an aged guitar (not the fake relic crap, the real thing). That “fast fret” stuff is also a joke. I reckon that my frets are as fast as I want them to be without the aid of cleaning.

    Well i think if you light a guitar on fire, and you could still use it then thats fine, i know someone who lit their strat on fire and it looks really cool, it adds more character to it, but when you smash it to a hundred pieces, then its useless and what do u get out of it? nothing except for one less guitar and wasted money.

    Exactly, i love how vintage guitars look with their chipped paint and how you can see the wood, it makes it more unique than if it is new with perfect paint, because then they all look the same.

    Oh yeah, I definitely agree with a few guitar smashes out there. Townshend, Hendrix, Cobain, they all smashed their guitars with a passion and intensity representative of their art. For your average guitar player, on a hobbyist sort of level, it seems forced and kind of over done. I agree that destruction and chaos is an important of rock and roll. And I totally agree that watching some of the guitar gods is amazing. That chaotic image of rock and roll is what brought me into the world of music, however I enjoy it so much, I’d like to share it with others.

    “too long, didn’t read” version: Guitar smashing has its time and place, and I understand it. Probably do it one time in my life too.

    I have to agree with the whole “smashing their guitars with a passion and its a part of art” thing, but yea, just smashing a guitar just to smash it is stupid, and burning it is okay if you can still use it. so im glad we can all sort of come to a compromise.

    btw if i am in a band and stuff, i probably would smash a guitar too, but not a really expensive guitar.

    What kind of mess did i start….

    Well then it’s not exactly your first guitar so i guess thats different, but try selling it on ebay or craigslist or something. then you can get some money and buy a small stone and a new electric mistress. Then everyone wins! :)
