The Bad Stone Phase Shifter made history as the first six-stage phaser with an adjustable feedback control and a manual mode that actually lets you freeze the phase sweep. Now EHX has re-issued the classic pedal in a modern package. Watch the incredibly soulful sounding Bad Stone in action. This demo includes a brief interview with EHX Founder, Mike Matthews, talking about phase shifting
I have an old EH Polyphase from the 70’s that I am never getting rid of – EVER (I’d hate to see what they’re going for on EBay nowadays!!!). That being said, if my beloved Polyphase bit the big one, I would have to check out the new Bad Stone – at least from what I heard on the demo. It’s just got that richness, depth and even sweep that I’ve only heard in EH phasers (and also in the old Maestro Stage Phaser – I’d hate to see what that’s going for on EBay!!!). Plus, the new Bad Stone has that freeze control, which is a great feature that I use quite a bit on my 70’s EH Electric Mistress. On the Electric Mistress it gives more of a comb filter/ring mod effect with enough feedback, but on the Bad Stone the freeze effect gives it more of a cocked-wah sound except richer, almost like a synth wa, IMO.
I would’ve preferred the old-style shell, but then again, everyone is going mini nowadays, like my best friend who has gone mini crazy!!!! You guys make the coolest effects ever – and to think I grew up in Sunnyside a couple of miles from ya!!!!!
